A forgotten game of Galactic Heroes
« on: December 06, 2020, 12:32:45 AM »
A few pics I found from a forgotten game of Galactic Heroes, the FFOL SF version.  I think my pal has.been may have more and better ones.

Two rival teams answer a Distress call radiating from a relay station on an alien planet. Our ships are off table. Here my team are by the building while the other team can be seen in the distance.

No sign of the Relay Station crew.  A mystery. We find nothing in the first building and move on to the second, which is locked. Our leader says stay frosty, we don't trust the other team.

Meanwhile the rival team climb up onto the first building for a better look and attract the attention of a fearful monster which rushes out of the mist. It circles the building!

The thing is all teeth and claw and rage wrapped in armour. Shots bounce off it and only make it mad. It has climbed up the stairs and is creating havoc. Several weapons jam at critical moments. For myself I am quite happy the other team is occupied, it is taking a long time to open the second door. We want the rescue bounty for ourselves , we feel sure the station crew must be holed up inside.

This building too is empty, but a careful search reveals a Data Stick which may contain saleable information. Our man trousers it. Oh no! He comes out of the building just as a second creature lumbers out of the green  mist!

These things are really hard to kill. They need 5 wounds to take down. It is only pure luck that it has chosen to pick on the toughest individual in my team. While the rest of us fire into it's armour plated back, it knocks our man down no less than 3 times  but he keeps getting up.

Our man manages to stagger away and, (because of a bad dice roll) the creature is attracted to the other team instead. We are not sorry to see it go.
The other team finally manage to kill both creatures and chop them into pieces. The sad fate of the Relay Station crew is revealed as their Lifesigns transponders are found inside the creature's tummies.
My team take the credit and we have a data stick to sell.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Great work on display there, especially the buildings and the Tyranid beasties.

I got the buildings & the various containers off the internet.
They were assembled, but not finished (gaps filled, extra
detail added, painted, based, bedecked with notices,  & flocked.)

I found the set up info. for that game & here is some of it.

"This is the Earther Freetrade League, calling any ships in the Fratton system.
Relay station '5ap 18.98' has gone dark. Crew transponders still active.
Standard rewards for information & assistance"

As I had set up the scenario I adopted the role of 'Plumpire' (part player, part umpire).
Thus Vodkafan was allowed to deploy his team on table, while mine had to start
at the table's edge. He received the following broadcast, ' No pressure man.
We'll stay out of this till you ask for help'.

These pictures show my team approaching the buildings, while V. is already investigating.

My guys move to the big building & head up the stairs to the 'high ground'.
V. gets his team to head over to the smaller one. Neither side truly trusts the other.

Green mist obscures much of the surrounding area. In the activation pack
drawing the first joker = a BEAST will arrive, out of the mist. It will have targeted
one on table figure (whichever throws the lowest. Using their best dice. For most
this will mean d10, but V. has a better leader than I, & gets a d12!)

The first joker is drawn. The beast locks on to one of my team, oh no!
The beast is controlled by the non targeted player (i.e. V.)

More close ups of the containers, & when I get around to loading them,
the buildings, on my workshop page.

"It's coming up the freaking stairs!!! Fire, FIRE, for heaven's sake FIRE !!!!!"
Two BIG problems for me.
First = throwing sooooo many ones (out of ammo) Friends would not be surprised by this.
Second= MY ruling that the beasts will ignore any stunned results. You need to wound these
buggers just to get their attention. It would take FIVE of those to down each one.

Another of my (brilliant?) local rules was 'if/when a beast takes a wound, it will look for another
target. This resulted in my boss (d10) becoming a target, but V's boss (d12) never.

Nice! I really like the colors on that Tyranid brute. Does it have one of the ForgeWorld crusher claws or is that stock? Not very familiar with 'nids.

Great old Rogue Trader vibe!
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Totally unconcerned with my team keeping the beast occupied,
V. investigates... a box!?!?  Good job he can read Terran & leaves
the lid firmly down.

My guys finally down the first beast.

Then, the second Joker (Beast).  V. actually manages to throw lower than ME ????
The joy is short lived as he manages to recover THREE times !!!! AND (flipping heck)
inflict a wound on it. We dice again...
guess what?  It heads towards my group!
We done that one as well, but as we chop them up (to sell on the black market)
V. leads his team away.  No thanks there then.
In fact he admits he was tempted to fire on me, but was happy to leave me the beasts.

They came out of a bargain box of bits at a show.  I wasn't even sure if the
bits belonged together, but they looked...right.
Also quite scary if you keep running out of ammo AND they ignore any 'stunned' results.
