Analogue Painting Challenge
« on: December 20, 2020, 04:55:54 PM »
Anybody participating?

This my first year doing the Analogue Painting Challenge. I do well working toward a deadline- it gives me focus- so I have wanted to participate in past years but have never got my name in before the challenge fills up. I am using this opportunity to focus on finishing up some half done projects such as the Saga war bands and Blackstone Fortress minis as well as start some new ones like a Wild West collection and terrain for another Pulp Alley table.

More info as well as a little tree side project on my blog.

Sooo... nobody else then eh?

Well, we are a week and a half into this and I have put out 4 negavolt cultists from GW's Blackstone Fortress game:

Quite a bit to paint on them:

I also did a section of dock in grey scale (actually more like black and white- I should have left more of the neutral grey showing):

As well as three little boats:

It was great playing around with weathered wood as well as a natural finish:

The boats and dock are from GW's Lake-town House Multi-pack:

Fantastic brushwork Codsticker!  :o

I JUST heard about the Analogue Challenge in a recent WSS Podcast. Until then, I wasn't familiar with it.

Thank you Bravo Six. It was wonderful mini to paint; no prep to speak of well sculpted with great proportions.

I have followed the APC on and off from it's inception but just tried to join last year; I was too late- the roster fills up fast. The participants paint all sorts of stuff: 2mm ancients right up to 28mm moderns, terrain vehicles, DnD miniatures. A lot of people use it as a means to reduce the Mountain of Shame, some to start a project and some to finish off a project. Ultimately, it's about mutual support in getting some lead and plastic painted. :D

I have eyed it the last few years but it does fill up fast and I always waffle about joining.  lol

Great work on the pier and boats. A rather nice table you have for display as well...

Great stuff, my first year also. About to finish my first unit for the year, a little behind as I have been completing stuff from last year!

Cheers

Thanks BZ. The weathered wood was done mostly with thinned, warm greys such as GW's Dawnstone and Scalecolour's Brown Grey painted in streaks with a wiggly brush to make it look like chipping. I think I also used Golden High Flow Acrylic Shading Grey, thinned with some matte medium (the shading grey is quite glossy).

I gave myself the low bar of 300 pts. I am a third of the way there but as I am back to work and the first couple of weeks of the new year are busy I expect my production will slow down.

I’m a Challenger (since the first public offering, Challenge II, in fact) and one of the Minions this year. Haven’t submitted an entry this ti e yet, but have some thing for later Chambers done or in progress.

It’s a good way to encourage me to the painting desk over the winter. I rarely top 500 points though.

Curt visits here sometimes I think.
