1/1200 Boshin War Naval models
« on: December 21, 2020, 01:07:19 PM »
Spithead miniatures have announced they now have sufficient supporters to commission a limited edition set of 1/1200 models of the Imperial and Shogunate fleets for the Boshin War.

Spithead work on a "pre-booked" sales system for all their non-core (and very limited interest) model ranges. People who want them, pledge to buy them when they are available. When enough people say they want them the moulds are made and that number of sets of models are produced. The number of supporters required is basically the amount of good quality castings that 1 set of moulds will produce.

If anyone else is interested in getting this set of models they need to drop Spithead a line on Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/spitheadminiatures ) and commit to the purchase (or PM me if, like me, you don't do Facebook and need their email).
Given how long it has taken to get the needed number of supporters for this set it is very unlikely to be available again as it would need the same number of new supporters to run a new set of moulds.

At last, combining this with Roku's miniature range, we will be able to play the entire boshin war campaign!

Anyone know what the price of these would be if you back this project?

Agreed, plenty of scope for coastal villages, harbours and gun batteries.  Coastlines are going to be evident on most of the battles.

Anyone know what the price of these would be if you back this project?

The existing Spithead Ironclads (Battle of Lissa sets and the South American Wars) work out at around £5.50/£6 each depending on size.  I would expect these 2 sets to be somewhere around £30 to £40 each.

Due to more people signing up for the Boshin Sets recently he is adding an 1866 Choshu Expedition set (5 Ironclads and Troop Transport Vessels) and a set  of 4 ships for the 1863 Battle of Shimonoseki Straits: USS Wyoming's fight with three warships of the Choshu clan. These can be "booked" in the same way the Boshin Fleets are.
