My "heroic" 2mm Phalanx, at 1:1 figure:troop ratio
« on: December 22, 2020, 08:24:10 AM »
This is an understrength taxi of 1026 men... but all 1026 sarissa are present and accounted for. This is an actual scale model of the tactical formation with every man present. The troops are organized into syntagmata, which are in turn split into two bases, each with 16 files and 8 ranks. I split them up to allow players some realistic tactical flexibility when deploying the phalanx in a game. I will be expanding these into an entire ancients miniature range by early next year. This block is about 4" across, so you can just imagine what a 40" section of the phalanx with over 10,000 figures and pike would look like on the table top.

That is amazing! The sheer density of that formation gives a real sense of how difficult it would be to a) resist it in frontal combat and b) maneuver when deployed.

Excellent  8)
The idea of representing an army in 1-1 ratio on a tabletop is very cool!
My armies:
- Henry VIII's army (WIP) 15mm
- Ancient Germans (28mm)
- Ancient Belgae (Gauls with German allies) (28mm)
- Massilian Greeks (Greeks and Gallic mercenaries/subjects) (28mm)
- A few EI Romans (28mm)
- Handful of WW2 British (15mm)
- A load of old 1993-1999ish Warhammer Orcs and Goblins

Impressive, I always like to see these 1:1 ratio units.  And the painting really makes these pop.

I assume they are 3D printed? Can I ask about the length of the pikes, the look many times the height of the figures - I would have expected them to be 3-4 times the figure height (but this isn’t my period)?

I've been holding out for awhile, but consider me a new sale. I'll be joining the FM club soonest.

Looks really impressive as others have said. But one thing....how did you paint this thing. It’s really, really, small, isn’t it?  o_o ::) lol
Keep up the good work!

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the kind words. I am very pleased with these guys. I’ll be making them available for purchase early in the new year as an actual physical product, as opposed to the .stl files I normally do. They will be in PLA, as these are 3D printed. So it’ll beca bit different from what you might be used to, but as you can see, they do paint up very nicely. And without too much work.
