Zona Alfa - Custom Zone Hostiles?
« on: December 28, 2020, 05:44:26 PM »
With ZA being a great guidebook to customizing encounters in exclusion zones, has anyone tweaked or made new zone hostiles for their games? If so, care to share their stats?

I have mainly just mapped figures to existing hostiles stats.

Yeah, that's what I've done with my collection as well, but I'm thinking about maybe making a few others. Like some carnivorous plants or something.

I have been using some D&D plastic ready painted figures that I picked up at various wargame shows.  They are often used in our fantasy "Games with Grandad" when we could meet.

So provisional ideas for Zone Alfa

GIANT CLAM - (made from a bottle top bent double.

Exp: 1 Wnds:  1 Mov: 1”   Combat:  5  Armr 4 Will 4
BI-VALVE: M  FP: 1     Dam: 0
If Clam wins then victim trapped and suffers -2 melee penalty.

LANDSHARK

Exp: 2  Wnds: 2 Mov: 9”   Combat:  4  Armr 6 Will 4
V Big Teeth Claw: M, FP: 2, Dam: 2
Ignores first pin marker.
Attacks anything edible.  May hide part buried relying on vibrations to alert it.  It is stupid and vicious.  It can leap 3” if it moves 6” and has FP 4 Damage 0

ASH HOWLER

Exp: 2  Wnds: 1 Mov: 8”   Combat:  5  Armr 4 Will 6
Very Big Teeth & Claws Range: M  FP: 1 Dam: 2
Roar: Expend action to roar.  All in flame template take pin marker if they fail Will test -1.

LAUGHING STALKER

Exp: 2       Wnds:  1
Mov: 8”   Combat:  5  Armr 4 Will 5
Teeth & Claws: M  FP: 1  Dam: 0
Bloodsucker holds on to victim d3 turns
Lures victims with an almost human laugh.

AZURE HYDRA

Exp: 1       Wnds:  1 Mov: 3”   Combat:  5  Armr  4 Will 4
Big Beak : M, FP: 1 Dam: 1
(thinking of allowing this creature spit poison to disable victim but worked out the rules yet)

CRESTED BERSERKER

Exp: 2   Wnds:  1 Mov: 8”   Combat:  5  Armr 4 Will 4
Big Teeth & Claw: M FP: 2  Dam: 1

I have a giant slug miniature which I have played as a large mutant with two hitpoints. The model has what look like sloped armour plates on its body so I came up with rules that if you shoot it from the front 180deg it has AC7 but if you manage to work round behind it then it is only AC4 since the bullets will tend to get trapped behind the sloping plates.

Another idea I have is for a flying attacker - gaint bat-like thing etc, - it appears somwhere on the tables around the location of it's original hotspot but you can't actually target it in a nomral firing attack. It is flying too fast and high and 'jinking' and therefore the only way you can engage it is with overwatch fire or when it attacks in close combat. Have some sort of rules where if it doesn't get a kill then after each attempt you roll against a random number and if it fails then it get's bored and flies off.  I haven't actually played that one out yet but it does provide for a slight different, definitely very formidable opponent.

I've just purchased some wild boar minis from this forum. I read in an article about a real life Chernobyl exclusion zone explorer accidentally disturbing some boar in a building and getting chased by them so I thought they'd be ideal!

An element I added was a 1:100,000 scale military style map of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. They're available from one of the Chernobyl tour companies in either a table map or a folded road map. I bought the table map for about $36. Exchanged email with the company to get the map. Delivery took some time, but they delivered the map in a hard rolled tube by mail. Shaded map areas show the path of the radioactive bloom from the disaster. Whereabouts of the towns, checkpoints, distances involved, and lay of the land including roads, woods, watercourses, and and jump off points are helpful in building a mission or scenario for games intending to penetrate the Zone. I was pleased with the detail of the map. One side is Cyrillic text, the other English.

Looks like a creature from the Tremors films.

It is a plastic pre-painted miniature from D&D Blood War.  I bought it at a wargame show from a seller who had boxes of assorted pre-painted miniatures.  On the base "49/60 CE14 Ethereal Marauder 2006 Wizards"
