In fact they were the Tirailleurs Sénégalais that succesfully faced the Mahdist at Fachoda..

I had had a couple of French officers and Senegalese Tirailleurs sculpted a while back but then got sidetracked working on my Russian Conquest of Central Asia project. I did get a few painted.

I decided to add to my Senegalese by using Algerian Tirailleurs (done by Masimo Costa of Black Watch Miniatures) that were made for the Franco-Prussian War. I had them painted as Senegalese by just getting the tunic plain blue and having the faces painted darker. The only thing that I don't like is they are not barefooted. I hope to get more sculpted after a few more Russians. Here's some pics.
