Dwarf and Elf Warbands?
« on: January 08, 2021, 03:09:24 PM »
I'm liking the look of the Oathmark elves and dwarves. Can Frostgrave warbands be comprised of all elves or all dwarves or what not or is it human centric?

Frostgrave is race independent, there are no official, race specific rules, so You can use any miniatures for it. Oathmark boxes could be used, but I think it can be hard to make thieves and thugs, because they are unarmored... With the Oathmark Light Infantry boxes (its released for elves, and its coming for dwaves), it should go.
Here is a little example:

I wrote about non-human wizards:

Thanks.
My current thought is to maybe play a little frostgrave and RoSD as I slowly build up enough painted models for oathmark.

The stats in Frostgrave are quite flattened compared to the D20 used for resolution so Dwarves and Elves would easily fit in with the same stats as the human models.

Looks like I can get 1st edition cheaper than 2nd, for obvious reasons. I'm not planning to go real deep into Frostgrave, like I said just play it some as I a mass models for larger games. Is 1st ok to pick up, or are the changes in 2nd worth going that route?

I olay Frostgrave, and I still use the 1st edition. But if I would start now, I would buy the 2nd. The changes are not so big, but its still the better version, and its not that more expensive.

There was a lot of work done on the units in the game to make them work better. I think that if you are going to play it that it will give you a better game experience using the new rules.

I’ve been thinking about elves too. I really like the oathmark elf light infantry and wanted to use some.

They make awesome looking bandits with their hoods and face-masks.

One of the things I like about Frostgrave is the way you can recruit a varied warband! You can embrace the fantasy stereotypes: Humans make good thugs, of course, but which wizard would not want a fleet footed bow-armed Elf as a Tracker? Or an armoured Dwarf with a double handed axe as a Templar? And who would chose anything other than a halfling as a thief?  It makes no difference to the game, but if it fits your narrative/figures you have to hand, why not?

I have played 1st ed and have recently acquired 2nd edition, and I would go for 2nd if the budget allows.

I am building my Oathmark forces so they can be used in Frostgrave (hence the black/grey rubble bases). I see no reason why you cannot use the non-human figures (you can build Gnoll war bands using official figures, so why not other non humans).

Second Edition does read better and the points value changes does make it easier to build a more comfortable force.
