Townsfolk needed for Troy
« on: March 10, 2021, 04:42:40 PM »
I'm building a 28mm Troy and I'm wondering if anyone has any favourite 28mm figures they can recommend as Trojan townsfolk?

More about the building project on my blog:

Well done , those buildings look great !
Figures wise , Nick at Eureka does a range and does a few Greek Women .
Casting room has a couple as well, Redoubt also has a couple.
But you probably need to select from Some "classical Greek "civilians to fill in .
Cheers

You might try Hittite civilians as well - Foundry has some.

Nic from Eureka here, we are looking to expand our Bronze Age Greek civilians, have you any suggestions for what you would like to see?

Nic - It’s like the Gods have heard my prayer!

Donato Spedaliere’s illustrations in Osprey’s book on Troy are full of excellent examples of people ‘doing things’.

People to sit on flat roofs – working rather than relaxing, drying fruit etc
Men with tools – hunched over working rather than standing around having a break
Men lifting loads – damaged fortifications could be being rebuilt or treasures stashed away
Women carrying baskets and pots/pot on head
A man leaning down that can be used both as about to lift something and shepherding small livestock through the streets
Men sitting working/basket making

It would be nice to see a general difference between the upright stance of the military and noblemen and common labourers with hunched shoulders.

Pack mules and baskets/people adjusting loads – the perfect beast of burden for the Bronze Age. Let's face it, iron is 40 times the price of silver and horses are difficult to tame!

The Eureka Trojan women on the battlements are excellent, by the way – they are a ‘must’ and I’ll have to get hold of a pack.

I would just be happy with open handed standing civilians. Could be ships crew, city inhabitants, the dodgy guy in the market you have to pass the message to.

Thank you for some lovely suggestions there.
I won't guarantee to have them all made, but certainly we will have some, including the mule train.

If you have hunched figures walking with two fists together by one shoulder then any kind of sack or load could be added to them or a rope to pull a boat along the shore, pull a sled with blocks on it or pull a big horse statue.

I wonder if the forthcoming packs of Trojans will come in ribbed, coloured or flavoured varieties?

Casting room miniatures do a pack of Trojan Civilians... Casting room stuff often looks better in the hand than on the site, but they still aren't great...
