British invasion of Japan - American marines - Page 3
« on: January 11, 2021, 06:22:32 PM »
I started this project ages ago but now I fancy carrying on with it. I've been dabbling in and out of it for years but this year will see some steady progress (I hope  lol )

The basic premise is that after some attacks on British diplomats in the later 1850's by Shogunate troops the British have had enough and have sent over the 31st Regt of Foot stationed in China along with some attached artillery and cavalry. The Americans have also been persuaded to join in and there's the potential for some French at a later date (if they bother to show up  lol ).

First off are the Japanese troops I've completed so far. They are all Bac Ninh Miniatures with the exception of two of the command figures, one of which is a Perry ACW officer with a suitable head, the other is a Copplestone officer; again with a head swap. The artillery are Perry plastics with head swaps and the addition of the little insignia on their arms and the cavalry tester is again plastic Perry with a head swap.

The Shinsengumi are Bac Ninh as well apart from the chap in the middle front who's a Perry.

Brits to follow next when I've sorted out their new banners and then the Americans  :)

Sounds interesting, always wondered about gaming something like this after reading about the marines and bluejackets storming an artillery stockade in the 1860's.

Beautiful work on those figures and the proposed campaign sounds brilliant.

Thanks chaps  :)

I’ve got a few of the cannon for the Shimenoseki batteries amd will no doubt do some sort of landing party. Need to get some more naval brigade sorted first though.

Got the flags sorted for the Brits. They're Crimean (from GMB) I think but close enough for what I want (as previously mentioned, I'm going for the 'look' rather than accuracy).

Just the one battalion at the moment (all Perry) but I've got the figures for another. The 12 figures are a mix of manufacturers that can be used for more narrative skirmish games and yes, those are the characters from Rorkes Drift  :D
