Kindle book: tactical deductions from the war of 1870-71
« on: March 28, 2021, 06:51:50 PM »
I got this book recently for $7 and change. It has an irritating problem. The software used to transfer the text from the old 1871+ translation isn't all that good.
They have a few pages of the old stuff and reading that is a real pain. The transferred text is easier to read but has a number of errors, mostly in proper names. The critical battle of the 1866 war is rendered as Shadow instead of Sadowa. Marshal Bazaine is Blaine, General Vinoy is Vino, etc. The Prussian army includes the Nth Corps and the Kith Corps.
I'm just partway through the book and finding this a bit of a pain. If you really want to read this book, go ahead. But you've been warned.
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

I’ve seen those kind of OCR errors in cheap / free books. But I think if there where that many in one I had paid a few quid for I would be asking for a refund.
