indeed

so this might be the reason, since his is a western train

Mine too. I did a bit of weathering and painted the interiors, but the models are basically unconverted...

My trains don´t move for gaming purposes. They only stand on the table as objectives or "scenery". You can put up as many wagons and coaches as you like, thus length is unlimited. You can take the engine alone, if you need a very short train or you go for logging railway stock as shown in Ramirez´ layout. Rolling stock is rather short in length there, much like German "Feldeisenbahnen". When the train was the most important thing on the gaming table, we had put up a 50x200 cm board. That worked very well.

thank You
I done a pretty voluminous Background reserch when I started my railway project
but of course do not know everything  :'(

my approach is due to the time and budget limitation - simply make it as generic as possible

so my rolling stock will be quite suitable for Europe (and the isles) from roughly 1880 to 1950 (epoch 1b-2)
also the armored trains will be improvised or of a type suited for as long a period as possible - namely Orlik (1914-1931) and the sarmowo pattern artillery car (1918-1945) with use in almost any theatre (of course not in Africa or SCW)

the difference between north american and european railway will always force you to make a decision, apart from the early years, so with a little easygoing, ACW might work as well  (not the standardized armored trains)

but the rolling stoch you shown me so far is really marvellous - I can only hope to reach such standards - will post it in time
