[Video] The Solo Wargaming Guide: A Practical Example
« on: January 29, 2021, 12:45:21 AM »
William Silvester's "The Solo Wargaming Guide" provides an excellent framework for sitting down with a notebook and paper and dice and generating a Tony Bath style wargame campaign from scratch.  Or for taking a bit of research and a map and doing the same.  He covers everything from logistics to weather to (a very limited form of) AI, and hits a pretty good mix of 'just detailed enough' to keep things complex without being overwhelming.

I've recently completed a series of videos that walk through Silvester's process from set-up to maneuvering armies to generating battles.  The campaign his a bit of a rough patch and we're still working out how to resolve the current situation, but there's over two hours of fun to be had as you follow along.

The first video can be found here:

And you can follow through, chapter by chapter, to see a curious little narrative form before your very eyes.  The First Elopation War isn't groundbreaking for old hands, but it's a fun little process that takes a few unexpected turns.  Well worth a watch for anyone considering the book, and maybe worth a watch for anyone running a complicated map-based campaign in support of your tabletop battles.

Anyway, thanks for reading.  I'm praying for you.
