Snakemen ~ A short review
« on: January 25, 2021, 06:33:32 AM »
I bought some of the Northstar, Ghost Archipelago snakemen. I've painted up a few of them and I'm not really as much of a fan of them anymore. That's not to say they're bad but they're not quite right.

My review and my opinion are on my blog at: https://this28mmlife.blogspot.com/2021/01/snakemen-review-ghost.html

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

I copy my answer to the same snakemen in another topic:
"My son has these snakmen. I must say, that I like them, especially the heads are looking good. But...
- The wide stand is a pain, if you want to use them on 25mm bases (for example for Oathmark), because they are ment to be used on 32mm.
- The mould lines are much worse, then on the other Northstar sets.
- The unusual half-ball joints at the arms are a hell to assamble.
So after they are assembled, I like them, while I was assembling them, I hated them. :)"
And youre right, the short arms are odd, especially with bows...
Nice review by th way!

My least favourite Frostgrave kit as well. Love the metal characters, but not a fan of the plastics. I think Wargames Atlantics upcoming Lizardmen could be a decent substitute, but they are rather short on weapon options from what I have seen.

I've painted one as a hero and half a dozen as grunts and they are OK.

My main gripe is that scales and clothing seem to just merge into each other rather then there being clear delineation, plus the mould lines of course with one that always hides until you apply the basecoat.

I think the Frostgrave plastics overall are pretty good, these are definitely at the bottom of my list.

Thanks guys. I agree with everything. Things like the mould lines I just took as par for the course, but now you mention it, they are pretty deep and distinct. The bases too are really annoying.

I think sci-fi weapon arms could look good on them. I wonder if I have any that I could use to test this theory?

This too. I had a lot of trouble trying to figure out what was what. Some areas of their "armour" I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be armour scales or their scaly hide. I just took a guess.

I'm just finishing off preparations on five of these. Glad I got that far before reading this thread or they might have stayed in the box ;D

I find parts running into other parts or just fading away quite common on plastics. "Best guess" is my approach as well.
