My Own Private Empire: [ Jan5- Army Standard & Ogres]
« on: October 12, 2020, 06:41:44 PM »
I've started work on my Empire army again, so thought I'd share here in case anyone is interested in my progress.

I haven't done a full unit in a long time, so I'm pretty excited to have picked up the brushes and taken another chunk out of completing the army (though there is still a long way to go).

For whatever reason, I started basing the units in my collection around themes of global domination, religious zealotry, secret societies, conspiracy theories, etc. That stuff always amused and fascinated me, so my empire began to take shape as militant representations of all these ideas. They provide wonderfully rich background inspiration, and researching iconography for them has always been part of the fun. After reading books like Focoult's Pendulum by Umberto Eco, the idea of them all being interlinked in one massive uber-conspiracy is too much fun to resist too. So, that is why the units all get different treatments.

And so, we have the Grand Army of the Order of the Temple of the Illuminati; Because sometimes The All Seeing Eye and the Hidden Hand need a mailed fist!

I started the Spanish Inquisition Swordsmen a few years ago with the amazing command group from Victoria Lamb. Over the last two weeks I finally finished all the soldiers. They are a mix of a few TAG & Brother Vinni, and the majority are Foundry.

Great idea and a lovely job. Victoria’s Spanish Inquisition are great figures. As are those Copplestone sculpted Conquistadors, come to that.

That's a fun approach to the army, and that's a superb looking unit.

I unearthed a couple old dwarf pieces I've been sitting on for years, and decided to finally press gang them into the empire.

Since I already have a unit of Imperial Dwarves, when things get particularly hairy, they'll call in their Black Helicopter to assist, and throw down chemtrails on the enemies of the empire:

And this tough guy proves that even the mailed fist of the emperor has a pinky finger.

I painted him to fit in with my reiksguard unit:

I'd think less chemtrails, and more "emergency beer run" options

Great start to what will surely be an incredible army. I am, however looking forward to how you're going to tastefully work in the 'Stevie Wonder isn't blind' theory!  lol

Finally got around to some projects started over a decade ago:

A mounted army standard:

And some brutish orge mercenaries, hired to bring the pain:

Those ogres look fantastic, great work there!
They're old dragon-ogre torsos wedded to new legs, right?

Also, why does the symbol on their standard look so familiar?
