Mary, Mary....How does your garden grow?
« on: January 26, 2021, 04:28:35 PM »
Iím in the process of making a produce garden for one of my many projects.

I thought Iíd share a few ideas on making produce here.

I toyed with breaking out the modelling clay then decided...there must be a short cut here...

So, a quick look in the cupboard and on the spice rack and the following useful bits were gleaned.

Cardamom pods, rice, juniper berries, coriander seeds and putkha seeds ( these I got from  Hobby craft).

A very quick paint job later.....and I now have marrows, peas or beans, tomatoes, gooseberries (or some other green fruit) and pumpkins!

They will of course look even better when ďplantedĒ in their greenery.   More on that later.

Next up, how to make cabbages and lettuces.

Buy yourself some of these 10mm paper roses (ebay about £4 for 50)

Keep them on their stalks for now....easy to paint that way.  However, you need to strip the green pointy leaf and on half of them, the bottom petals, especially for better scale or younger veg.

At this point, Iíd advise putting a blob of superglue under each flower to hold it together.  Once dry, paint green (or red / purple) and snip the stalk off before planting out.

There are lots of other seeds etc that can be used.   Try poppy seeds sprinkled into your hedgerows for instant blackberries.  Or paint them red for raspberries etc.

Once Iíve planted these out, I will share more tips ....

That's brilliant. I shall shave a top tip from when I 'helped' my daughter with a project last year. If you have a little strip of paper and snip parallel cuts halfway down, all along its length so it look like a comb, you can roll it up in lengths to make leeks. Also, with your cabbages, a spitball (yuk!) made from white paper, chewed up and covered in pva makes a good centre for cauliflowers!

Like it!   I was going to stick a blob of green stuff over the centre and prod it with an old toothbrush....probably get similar result with your spitball though.

Well done David.
If I tried painting peapods etc. they would slip out of my hands
& be lost on the floor. :D :D :D

Please donít think I painted those individually! Lol.  I watered a little green paint, plonked it on the little pile of rice then mixed them about until they were all green....just separating them with a scalpel so they didnít stick whilst drying!

Cheers...but this is pretty simple tbh.

Cabbages or lettuces, cauliflowers ( I stuck small blob of green stuff over the centre of the flower and stipple it with a tooth brush...I think they look good ok)
