But I've been thinking hard, and can't recall ever seeing an illustration of a boat like that in the 18th century.

Any evidence for this as an FIW period design?

Aha! Applied some more Google-fu starting with Louisiana Boats, found my way to Orleans Boats and Flat Bottomed Boats in general. Yes, this model is good for the period for the Mississippi, and likely as a coaster around New Orleans.

My games (and prior research) are all set in New York, where Periaugers and Hudson River Sloops rule the river. But perhaps a wayward southerner might build one up on the Hudson...

Really tempted, but my FiW collection is already bigger than I need. Maybe if they would have flat bottomed boats for Roger's expedition up the St Francis...

I've got some winter terrain I've made for WW2 gaming, that might work with this project also.

Fun the dangling of an alpha version of a new ruleset too - maybe we'll get an idea of how the units are banded together for the system (Marco, maybe you could inquire what the 'figure-count' needed for such a game might amount to?).
