Lion Rampant in The Pyrenees- Devon Wargames Group
« on: January 29, 2022, 09:49:46 AM »
One of the games run at the DWG this month included a Lion Rampant clash set in the foothills of the Pyrenees as Moorish troops ambush a party of French making their way home in the summer of 1212.

The armies of this period and theatre make for a glorious feast for the eye and the battle they produced was a fiercely fought affair.

A great read and an amazing looking table. I really liked the historical context you gave in your report. Crossbow units are brutally effective in LR, once they're activated of course, which can be tricky, but I always dread facing them. Thanks for posting.

Nice AAR!  And a close run battle, always makes it more fun.

Excellent battle report and some great figures.  It looked a blast to play.  Did the rules need any adaption to play such a large game or did the mechanisms work differently?

Great write up and great looking game.

I suspect LR plays better with bigger forces - a failed activation perhaps has a bit less impact (assuming each player had their own force)

Hi Chaps,
Thanks for your comments

Re play adaptions, I’ve had the following reply from our Gamemeister’

We didn't really adapt the rules, and it worked alright, though I think around 50 points is about the limit of the system.  The Moors in particular failed a lot of activation rolls, which meant that they lost out on a quite a few turns.  We played in a spirit of good fun and took this as a bit of welcome friction, but I think if we were to do it again, we would probably divide the two sides, so that each of the four players (two to a side) had a separate force (and leader) for purposes of activation rolls.  That way, even if one half of the side fail to activate on the first roll, the other half will have a chance to do something.

I hope that helps
JJ
