Sculpey Clay Terrain
« on: July 15, 2021, 06:03:00 AM »
On the old workbench I want to run with an idea of some small scatter terrain. So with some fender washers and some Sculpey Clay a polymer clay. I created some pieces mounted onto the fender washers. Baker as directed then painted. In the painting process I would do a drop of different color paints right next to each other. to which I would just dip the brush in and let the brush mix the paint creating streaks of colors. After al of the paint was done I then black washer everything. Followed by highlighting with white. When that was all done I sealed everything with a brush on acrylic sealer. I paint all the crystals with a coat of Mod Podge to give them all a shine.

Purple and white was used for the crystal.

Blue and Purple was used for the crystal.

Red and yellow was used for the crystal.

The figure in the photos is a GZG 15mm figure.
I really enjoyed making these I have few more that need painting and I hope to post them soon.

Those look fantastic.  The bright colors really help sell them as alien crystals.  Perfect for your 1960s pulp style planetary adventure.

How did you get such nice sharp angles on the clay?

I made the square crystal by cutting them from different size square clay rods with a razor modeling knife and the pointed crystals I made large square rods so to speak and carefully cut away from it.

With all for them I carefully lifted them with the tip of the knife and gently pushed in place as I went. if you look carefully you can see cuts or indents on the top of some of the square crystals from pushing into place.

I worked from the middle out of course and just made things small as I went, which helps hid some gaps plus the smaller ones are much easier to get into place. Once it was all baked all it need was painting.
