Buffalo Border Guard Vignette
« on: February 07, 2021, 07:12:07 AM »
Hello,

So I've made this vignette as part of my Zulu War project that's been on-going for well over two years.

I'm happy with the outcome of this Perry Miniatures conversion. Taking a Frontier Light Horse and using Perry bits and pieces and some green putty. The Zulu casualty is straight from the Perry Miniatures plastic Zulu War sprue.

After reading Mike Snook's Zulu War book on Isandlawana I wanted to try and capture one moment that was challenging for the Imperial forces in trying to defend themselves.

I'll look to more vignettes this year to further my collection.

Thanks for looking.

This is very very nice, great work!

I have quite a few empress/perry British and colonial volunteers with 4ground ox wagons that I intend to use in depicting a last stand on the nek at isandlwana.

I'm still working on the Brits with natal carbineers and buffalo border guard next in line.

I'm inspired by this. thanks Helen
Can I ask, what paint ranges are you using? the African flesh tones are great.

That vignette is a little beaut, Helen! Really have to commend the painting on the Zulu fella's skin in particular.

Thank you. Good luck with your last stand.
Sure, I started with Wargames Foundry Dusky Flesh A. I then made up a wash with Panzer Aces Black Brown, Soft Tone, Strong Tone and water. Washed the miniature. Started again with Pz Aces Black Brown and Dusky Flesh and added more Dusky Flesh until I highlighted with added Dusky Flesh B.

Hope this helps you.

Beautiful!  :-*

Would be remiss to say that the horse is also very realistically marked.

Fantastic work overall.

Beautiful work Helen. Particularly liking the horse flesh and the basing. Looking forward to seeing more when you you’ve completed them.
