Running the Guns
« on: February 14, 2021, 05:40:11 PM »
Those of you who remember watching on TV, or going to see The Royal Tournament held at Earls Court until 1999, will recall the highlight of the programme, the running of the field guns.

If it isn't enjoyable, it isn't gaming!

Brilliant! Remember it well from going to see the tournament back in the 70s! lol

Wow, it hasn't been held for over twenty years? Blimey, where does the time go?

Great idea! I would never have thought to make a game out of something like this.

What a clever idea, and very nice figures.

I kind of remember going to see this live, I guess in the 80s. Was always a great spectacle on TV.

I used to look forward to this every year. I'm another Pompey supporter,
& used to be very disappointed if they were not one of the teams on the
tele that year.
Wonderful work, I did consider doing it in 28mm (many many years ago)
but would have had to completely scratch build everything.

There is an interesting piece of early film about the "Invasion of Clacton" manoeuvres in 1904 showing the Naval Brigades in action, including a larger team with a 4.5-inch gun!

Yup. I remember going to see it as a kid. Very thrilling for an army obsessed eight year old!

What a lovely thing.

And a real piece of leftover history, from when they actually had to move guns in the field.

Brilliant. Many memories from going to a few Royal Tournaments in the 70s.

Good to see this, I too remember it on the telly.

Strangely I'd heard it was to do with the Egyptian war (1882) and getting the British guns over the trenches and emplacements at Tel el Kebir. Obviously mistaken.

Anyway it looks great!
