Empress Miniatures MACV-SOG
« on: February 17, 2021, 01:13:45 PM »
After being inspired by Ash's outstanding figures I thought I'd have a go. I bought some aquarium plants for the jungle look, but then realised all my other Vietnam figures were based for dry season plantation type terrain.

They look great, that bloke with the RPD in the 'spray paint' camo really looks the part.

Basing options can cause continuety issues over a large collection. I tried to be nutral when I started the USMC figures, then added some bricks because Hue should have some sort of FIBUA, looks great until they are plonked in a rice paddy! Went with short green grass for the ANZACs and full on compost heap for the US SF types.

Cheers, I thought I'd better do him sprayed up after you said you should have done :)

Just think back to Fieldcraft lessons "too much, too little and just right" When doing Americans always go "too much" lol

Those are really great to look at. Wonderful work!!

With excess foliage comes the opportunity to paint more figures!

I always remember my camouflage instructor saying to me, "why weren't you in my class today", I replied, "of course I was there, you just didn't see me"  ;)

I can remember  buddying up to apply camouflage cream and adorning the forehead of a fellow platoon member with an artistically rendered but none the less legible abbreviation of Scunthorpe. He proudly wore that for much of the rest of the day until it sweated off to the suppressed giggles and smirks  of the rest of the platoon.

I can only presume they misinterpreted it as an obscenity.  Admittedly, the letter 'S' and the 'thorpe' suffix were absent due to the size constraints of the canvas so I can see how they might have made their mistake.

About halfway through 'SOG: The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam' by John L. Plaster. A very interesting read.
