Richard Ansell (Sculptor) - RIP
« on: February 23, 2021, 10:38:22 PM »
As some of you have no doubt read on other outlets, the very talented sculptor Richard Ansell (aka Woodwose) has passed away. Richard sculpted many ranges but most folks from this forum would recognize the work he did for TAG The Assault Group as well as the future war troopers he did for CP Models. I had many occasions to interact with him when the Nam range was being released through TAG, and he was an amazing chap. I think he even posted on Fields of Fire briefly as Woodwose.

More info can be found on the Two Fat Lardies blog here

RIP Mr Ansell. Thank you for your contributions to our wonderful hobby.

Yes, this is indeed extremely sad news.

His SYW and AWI work for Minden Miniatures, Crann Tara and Fife & Drum Miniatures also shouldn't be overlooked : the man had a flair for C18th subjects and he developed a sculpting style that's anatomically more correct and completely opposed to the so-called 'heroic' style favoured by quite a few manufacturers.

Yes indeed. Plus he did a load of pulp packs for Lon at Brigade too.

Sad news, a great sculptor, his work on Minden, Crann Tara and Fife and Drum are without doubt the best 18th figures around. :(

Yes indeed a very sad loss. If it hadn’t been for Richard then Crann Tara would never have been born. We’d worked together for over 10 years on the range and as others have said he had a flair for 18th century figures.
A very underestimated sculptor who most probably didn’t receive the recognition he deserved.

Very sad news indeed. A very talented sculpter, tried to employ him once, but he was too busy.

A great blow to the hobby.

Cheers
Matt

Oh! What a terrible piece of news!! He was a very talented sculptor! I count his Minden's, Crann Tara's and Fife & Drum's models among my favourites in my collections. He will be sorely missed.  :'( :'(

R.I.P. Richard.

I worked with him many moons ago, being an outlet for his 1/48th scale WW2 figures. They are now owned by Scarab Miniatures.

I still have a range of Romans called Imago Militis he designed, but we never finished the range.

Great guy, we always got on really well.
