Other lines that scale well with Walking Dead?
« on: May 08, 2022, 01:12:00 AM »
Evening all!
Went down a Youtube rabbit hole watching Ash/Guerilla Gaming and his Zona Alfa videos.  It got me thinking that some of the Mantic Walking Dead figures I have might work with this rules system.  Also saw a number of more military figures on Etsy which led me to ask you folks if you were familiar with any miniatures/miniature lines that match well with Mantics Walking Dead line.
Thank you all
Mike

Well, Crooked Dice and Hasslefree have ranges which would fit in well with the lamented TWD:AOW figures:

The Cartwright brothers by Hasslefree.

Crooked Dice's Heroic Cop wades in with his shotgun.

Comparison with Crooked Dice (including the mandatory William Killian shot).

William thinks that May's Kendo course was money well spent.

Crooked Dice Lawmen

Crooked Dice's Savage School Girl

Crooked Dice Security (Colony 87 range).

Zombie comparison

TWD, Studio Miniatures, Crooked Dice, Warlord/Wargames Factory, TWD and TWD.

Mainly a comparison of the Project Z figures and TWD:AOW.

Wow, thanks for that. I was literally about to ask a very similar question!
I want to put the crew together from Dawn of the Dead (1978)
I have the Studio miniatures set, which are perfect BUT they are tiny.
I put them up against the TWD zombies and they look like midgets.

I wonder if Mantic will rerelease the TWD rules at some point?
Very elegant system

I doubt it. They no longer hold the license and Skybound was not want to renew.

Hasslefree, Crooked Dice, Heresy, Copplestone, Foundry, and some of Reaper's Chronoscope all scale pretty well with Walking Dead.

As mentioned above Mantic no longer has the licence and that was a very recent thing so I can't see it coming back. You should be able to pick up a rule book from somewhere fairly cheaply though, I imagine there are places still yet to clear old stock etc.

It's a shame it's died, I'm quote a big fan of the rules and personally felt like there was a lot more they could do.

To answer the main question though I've found that Hasslefree, Studio Miniatures, Crooked Dice all scale quite well. I've also used some of the Swat from Wargames Foundry's Street Violence range to do bands of police etc

Anvil Industries do a range of multipart/multipose zombies which I am going to use to "flesh out" the zombies for TWD:AOW: https://anvilindustry.co.uk/zombies.

The first one I have assembled looks a bit shorter than the official TWD:AOW walkers.

Though this might just be the pose.

Subsequent ones are going to get a piece of plastic card over the slot in the base to add a bit more height.

The contractual William Killian comparison shot.

Sprue photographs either on the Anvil site (see link above) or more comparison photographs here:

If you have a resin printer (or know someone who has one), Heroforge has nice and chunky sculpts that work well with Mantic's chunky design. And you can create whatever you want!
