Maelstroms Edge, has anyone on the LAF tried it?
« on: February 27, 2021, 11:42:10 AM »
So Maelstroms Edge, has anyone on the LAF tried it?

I have had some of the miniatures for awhile and they are quite good and as for the building sprue(s), it`s really bloody useful.

So on Friday in a fit of semi-weakness, I ordered the boxed game :o. The game looks ok and I will most likely play solo anyway. But I have never seen much on here about it.

I like the slightly higher sci-fi look and the fluff, so whatever happens it will get used one way or another. Most of the mini designs I quite like, so its all gravy.

Just wondered what if anything the good folk of the LAF make of it?

Cheers everyone, stay safe and keep rolling dem` bones ;)

I remember when it was on Kickstarter and it looked very promising. Though I pledged I pulled out in the end as the rules looked to be a bit of a disappointment...can't quite remember why.

The minis do look good, apart from the chaps on the one faction.

I'd love to hear what others think of the rules too.

First I have heard of it.  But some of those plastic sprues do look interesting.

I got the game but never done anything with it apart from open it up to look at the figures and such. The terrain sprues are very nice. There is also a second one out now and more miniatures. The people behind it seem to post mostly on Dakka Dakka. There are also a few more factions now with more stuff planned for this Year.

Have the game box, never played it but love the minis and the terrain sprue (bought plenty of singles ones from their site since them). And In fact I've just assembled a couple of their drones and robots  :)

Thanks everyone, sounds like I will probably end up doing the same, I already had a few individual models picked up from this range at various salutes etc.

Keep gaming

Never played it, but my co-worker wrote a lot of the fiction for it!

I read a couple of the books and I did really enjoy the fiction.

I looked into it... the sprues were appealing for kitbashing potential but my sci-fi project plans were considerably scaled back due to demands of my other projects. It is good to hear they are doing well... I might revisit my plans for their stuff in the future.

I couldn't resist ordering some of the plastic sprues.  It will be interesting to see how well they mix with the Stargrave plastic sets when they appear.

I really love the figures, but I have never played the actual game before.

I believe that the MEdge sets are more 40k Imperial Guard scale whereas the Stargrave plastics are similar in scale to Frostgrave so they should be smaller. I could well be wrong though.

You will probably find more players on DakkaDakka since M.E was created by the same people that run Dakkadakka forum.

there's a whole section of forum dedicated to it over there and I believe that's basically where the entire community for the game hangs out.

Personally I decided not to get into it after having a flick through a rulebook in a damaged store copy - it felt a bit too much like 40k with magic the gathering bolted on top.

Thanks.  I have some IG around here to putter with as well.

I bought 8 boxes of it on sale from Game Kastle for $40 ea.
Also got six boxes of Grind for $25 ea. in the same sale/dump.

I like the minis but never played. It looks a lot like a 40K type of game with templates, to hits, saves, etc.
