Post Apocalyptic Anthropomorphic Minis?
« on: March 03, 2021, 03:01:02 AM »
I got thinking about This Is Not A Test and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (hey, they've got similar acronyms TNT and TMNT) and that then got me thinking about the TMNT rpg from the '80s and its wacky supplements, After the Bomb, Roadhogs, Mutants in Space, etc. Then I got thinking about it would be cool to do a mutant warband for TNT with anthropomorphic TMNT-style mutants. Anyone have any suggestions for minis?

I saw there was a kickstarter for NoMad minis by Old Gamers Workshop. Do they sell any of the minis they've already produced? Or is there a late back for their most recent kickstarter?

The game Albedo Combat Patrol has a dedicated line of anthropomorphic animal figures that might fit your project. They also make separate head packs that you could use to convert humans into anthropomorphic mutant critters.

I know I’ve seen “not ninja turtles” in 28mm somewhere, but can’t recall which manufacturer has them...

There are also a few anthropomorphic critters scattered through Reaper Miniatures’ lines (Skraw the Armadillon, and a few apes with guns).

Seems like a cool project, good luck on the hunt!

Interesting. The models look a bit uniform military but I'm going to check them out more. After posting i remembered Drowned Earth has anthropomorphic mutants, but then come in packs mixed with humans.

There are options out there, but miniatures are scattered across multiple manufacturers.

For example, Crooked Dice has Simian Minions here and here. They also have Beast Men here and here.

There's also Eureka Miniatures' Boiler Suit Apes, and I think some options from Pond Wars could work.

As Pattus Magnus mentions, there are minis to be found at Reaper Miniatures, but some might require converting depending what you're looking for. I like some of their sci-fi dinosaurs, like this one and this one.

Edit: I fixed some of the links in the text above. Also, I should've mentioned that none of the above are strictly post-apocalyptic, but they are anthropomorphic and could generally work.  :)

What about taking plastic minis like Frostgrave's Gnolls, Ghost Archipelago's Snake Men, or the Wargames Atlantic Lizardmen and adding firearms to them?

I guess I'd like a diverse group of minis representing several species.

I don't really want a Planet of the Apes vibe, but thanks for pointing those out. Those reaper dino guys are pretty good. I saw some space mouslings too, but they looked like little GW space marines in their armor and backpacks.

On the subject of Crooked Dice, there is also the Grandville range.

More Steampunk anthropomorphic than post apocalypse but worth a look.

The Killers and Mastock might be of use.

The Sally 4th site was loading weird for me when I click your link, then I realized I was trying to view the mobile site on my deskop, managed to find the page itself and there's more options for the Albedo Combat Patrol then I realized.

In case anyone else is wondering I found some more options:

Interloper Miniatures: There's some rabbits, pigs in space and roosters
https://interloperminiatures.com/minis/

Khurasan has some armadillos, dino-men and some tiger people in power armor
https://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/28mmscifi.html

Drowned Earth: All the factions have a mix of humans and anthropomorphic animals

Not necessarily a bad thing!

In your own example, you cited TMNT — which iconically features anthropomorphic (mutant) animals interacting with normal (“normal”?) humans.

I can do you one better. Are you familiar with the Mutant Year Zero RPG/video game setting? It is explicitly Post Apoc and there are plenty of anthropomorphic animal characters.

The main characters of the MYZ video game (which is excellent btw, and essentially a digital minis game) features an anthropomorphic duck and warthog as the main characters:

Come to think of it, the MYZ RPG books constitute an incredible ready-made “campaign setting” for miniatures gaming with This Is Not A Test.

Yes, I have heard of Mutant Year Zero but I haven't played it myself. Sounds like somebody should make minis for it :)
