Scifi themed playing cards?
« on: March 03, 2021, 01:41:44 PM »
Considering there are quite a few games out there that use decks of regular playing cards in their mechanics, I ventured out to obtain several decks that would theme nicely with those games.

I've got a couple that are a bit different than the basic sets one sees everywhere, and they are nice, but I'm still in the market for a nice science fiction themed deck.

I've seen several Steampunk ones, which don't really do it, and also a retro eighties one, that is all glossy and neon. That one's nice, but doesn't really match what I'm looking for.

Toned down Cyberpunk might also be ok (I saw a couple of really out there ones, which I didn't particularly like).

So what all that boils down to; I want a deck of playing cards that is themed along the lines of games like Infinity or Deus Ex, and films like Elysium or Ghost in the Shell.

Anyone who can point me in the right direction?

These are on Amazon and they're defined as Cyperpunk playing cards.

Some of the reviews are pretty brutal

If you are willing to create your own artwork, a company called Artscow will print them for you.  I have used them for some custom card decks.
https://www.artscow.com/

Wiley Games has specialized decks for the games he publishes with science fiction and other themes.

There are some here https://spy.com/articles/lifestyle/gifts/best-games-playing-cards-sci-fi-fantasy-fans-128615/

Not sure if this is the right kind of thing for what you want... and they May be a bit tough to track down but I thought they looked cool when I saw a deck on eBay.

As a final note check ETSY for Sci fi or science fiction playing cards.

Have you seen these?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EW6OZ5E

They do fit with the games you listed as inspiration...but I can imagine it's not what you're aiming for.

I think these are way cooler (although a warm yellow would have fitted the Deus Ex vibe better):

Then there's also a fuchsia and mint deck...fits Infinity quite well:

This is one more in line with the Cyberpunk video game:

I also found lots of decks that featured gears in the artwork...I skipped these. Steampunk should stay away from Cyberpunk imo.

Impressive, really.

I've searched high and low, and have found many, many different decks, none of which really suited me, but I knew the LAF would come through. There are some suggestions that I have indeed encountered in my search, but I am amazed at the volume of suggestions that I have now seen for the first time!

Many thanks to you all for that :)

Malebolgia; those Cybershock and Cyber-Crisis decks look to be exactly what I was looking for (especially the Cybershock one), so I'll be looking into what Bicycle has to offer in their store... 8)

So, after much deliberation and comparing loads of really cool decks, I finally settled on the Bicycle Grid 2.0 Red deck, and ordered one.

Aesthetically, I liked the teal/blue version better, but these seem to be clearer to distinguish at a glance, and more closely resemble the classic playing card look, while still having that futuristic look to them:

Added bonus; they have a more intricate/elaborate design and even some easter eggs when viewed under UV light! I think the chance of having UV lights present during gaming is minimal (it's not the early nineties anymore lol ), but it's a fun little gimmick nonetheless :D
