15mm Napoleonic Gun Comparison
« on: March 07, 2021, 11:33:18 PM »
I'm looking to add a lot of Russian artillery.  I'm pretty sure the army I bought has MiniFigs guns, but their prices are rather high these day, so I'm pondering more economical choices.

Does anyone know if Chariot or Old Glory would be close size matches?  Or other options?

I don't know about size matches but the Blue Moon guns, caissons and wagons are very well done - but they are packed six guns to a pack ($18.00 in the US, or £16.00 in the UK). Unfortunately this is in contrast to their horses and infantry - which are fairly mediocre at best. I usually match the BM equipment with AB crews and draught teams - so I can't advise on economical choices!

Campaign Game Miniatures are pretty good - https://www.campaign-game-miniatures.com/artillery-163

Do you really need your batteries to match your MiniFigs? Aren't they going to be sitting separately on the table? I have a battery of old guns and crews and they still do sterling service for the Emperor.

I prefer grand tactical rules, and gearing up for DBN on 60mm wide bases, 2 guns per stand and the stands are likely to get grouped in grand batteries.  So yes, I'm looking for a fairly close match.  Doesn't have to be exact.

The biggest visual key for me is if the wheels are close to the same diameter and thickness.  Carriage or barrels have a bit more leeway.  Battle Honours for instance has wheels that are too small and too scrawny.  (They do make lovely destroyed guns for marker stands though.)

For the Russian ones I have on hand that look MiniFig-ish:

12-pdr: wheel 12mm D, 1.5mm W; carriage 25mm L, 8mm W.

6-pdr: wheel 11.5mm D, 1.5mm W; carriage 24mm L, 7mm W.

Actually, if anyone can check measurements of OG or Chariot French or British guns, even that would be a big help. I have those in MiniFig too and I suspect the relative comparisons would carry across.
