I really like the way this army is coming together.  The Warlord and standard bearer models are especially well done.

Did you choose green as the color that ties all of the models together because of is association with Islam or simply because you like green?

Years ago, when I was playing Malifaux 1.0, I converted a number of Saracen models from the Hell Dorado model line to use as a counts-as an Ottoman themed Freikorps Crew.  I was looking for a color to tie them all together.  After a bit of research I learned that in Islam, green is associated with paradise and starting around the 12th century it became an important dynastic color, particularly among the Shiites.  So, while my Ottoman Friekorps were painted mostly in off-whites, browns, metals, and leather, I painted their belt sashes, trim, and other bits green to add a splash of color to the earth tones and to tie all the models together.

I'm also impressed by your basing.  The greenery and flowers contrasts nicely with the dry earth and compliments the green bits on the models.

Well done, sir.

Thank you.  I chose green to be a theme colour as a Islamic staple, although mixed it with other colours to ensure a variety.  I can't take credit for the commander as he was painted by another forum member but I touched him up in various places (face and hands etc) to match my other models.  The standard bearer is all my own work.

I like to have colourful bases for my figures and believe that the area of operations was much greener than we see in the present day terrain and thus a base colour of sand but with some additional greenery and flowers makes the bases stand out better.

Very nice. :-*

Thanks Rui.

Here's my output for the last couple of weeks, a unit of Heavy Cavalry and another unit of Turcoman Horse Archers which gives me 4 in total which combined is a 'division' for Hail Caesar.

Next I'm switching back to infantry units with a couple of archer units in the painting queue.

Excellent collection.

I really like the muted but still colourful tones you have managed to paint.

Thank you.  Painting on this project has stalled whilst I clear the paint queue of other stuff.  Hope to get back to it at the end of the month.

Really lovely work Hu Rhu  :-*

The Seljuks are such a pretty army. I would love to meet them across the table top one day with some Komnenian era Byzantines! (an army that I really want to get around to doing!)

That would be an awesome sight.  Get your painting skates on and stop getting sidetracked by Italian Wars stuff.  lol lol lol

Beautiful!

Thank you.

I have had these figures half finished on the painting table for some time giving me the evil eye and I finally found the time to finish them off.

They are a mix of figures using Footsore, Perry Armenians and Gripping Beast plastics to give them a very irregular look. I used earthy tones throughout and a dark skin to represent Sudanese.

I also based them in single rows with the intention of using them as a massed archer unit or a mixed spear archer unit in the later wars.

Here they are with some spearmen I painted earlier.

Thanks guys.  Yes I was pleased that the two mixed so well and even the GB plastics were not too poor alongside them.  However I wouldn't mix GB plastics into any more units as they don't have the same definition as the metal figures.
