Last Dragon Figure Help Please
« on: March 17, 2021, 07:21:03 PM »
Having scoured the internet for possible 25 and 28mm martial arts type figures to no avail to use for Sho' Nuff's women, it's occurred to me that there might be some likely candidates in post-apoc ranges.  I'm happy to do some conversion work.  Can anybody suggest possible starting figures to use for them?

Lisa Dalton with the big spikey hair might have likely post-apoc counterparts.  If there are any figures in costumes close this, I can send them to the green-putty hairdressers for a makeover.

Funky Skull Miniatures has a nice Shogun figure.  (If a bit short, I'll have to slice this in the middle and add some height extension, Julius Carry was 6'5"!)

Maybe use some Escher models from GW's Necromunda range? 90s metals for smaller figs, new models for larger plastics. It'll require some weapon snips, but I think they have the hair and general vibe.

Something in the Punkapocalyptic line might also work? https://www.badrollgames.com/en/gallery/gangers-gallery/

Also, the Street Violence line has plenty of potential minis: https://www.wargamesfoundry.com/collections/street-violence

They look like Shadowrun babes so you can probably find suitable base figures in the IWM range.

80s style Big hair, tight pants and leather/puffer jackets are pretty much de rigueur for the Sprawl.

Thanks folks, I suspected this was the right forum to ask in!

There are some nice choices in the Foundry Street Violence, but one super pick per pack would make that pricey.

I'll start with the Shadowrun, that is a sweet lineup for working into a 1985 movie cast.  They'll also be leaner figures which should work well.  There's a dwarf mercenary that should work particularly well for Janet Bloem too, she was quite the shortest of  the three women.

Have you looked at some of the Studio Miniatures figures?

I have, they pop up easily enough in searches for martial arts figures.  But they didn't look as easy to mod into the Last Dragon image as the Shadowrun (which are in the mail now).  I also really like the height variance within the Shadowrun range.  Between Julius Carry and Janet Bloem and points in between, the Shogun's gang has some significant altitude differences!

The Shadowrun figures arrived a few days ago.  Yesterday, I made the final figure selections for the 3 women and 3 men of Sho'nuff's gang and began trimming them.  Have removed hand props and clipped away the deep base rim.  Detailed conversion work is about to begin.  The figure for Mr. Nuff himself should arrive any day now from Funky Skull Miniatures.

It's a good thing I ordered a bunch of figures from the range to have on hand to inspect closely.  The dwarves turned out to be too short, even for the short actors.  But the whole range has a lovely natural variance of figure heights, and I'm happy with the final casting call.

The dwarf figures do scale well as human little people, and a couple of them will get brigaded with the Halloweeners figures for a Nightmares Gang.  One or two other figures will make their way into the Gramercy Riffs from The Warriors.

Once I've got some gangs for Mean Streets finished, I'll be starting another thread, probably in Pulp.  (Although there is an argument to be made that '60s and 70s gang wars in NYC are Post-Apocalyptic and the final tip into the apocalypse came with the construction of the Cross Bronx Expressway... but Mean Streets is greatly inspired by The Warriors and Hollywood style gangs, so pretty pulpy.)

The final casting call:

Great choices.  The 505 Elf girl is one of my favourite figures in that range.
