“Dog Rough Soldiers”
« on: March 25, 2021, 12:20:57 PM »
Note name Change as of page 18.

I have been able to resist ECW gaming for years, but the new Bloody Miniatures range of skirmishing fellows has my interest piqued.

But I DON’T want to Wargame the 17th century, I do enough of that reenacting.  However, realising I have been slowly putting together a number of flying witches for an as yet realised racing game, I am of a mind to combine the two and maybe pop together a little game based loosely around the scouring of witches in the early seventeen century.

Thanks to a kind soul on here, I have secured a copy of the Witchfinder General game for some inspiration, but this may yet prove a “daft” departure, probably not amounting to a lot, but possibly a fun little game.  Think more Witch hunter general crossed with dog soldier, crossed with the Hansel & Gretel film.... :D

I get to scratch an itch and paint a few soldiers (maybe even a few musket and pike in my own regimental colours) and finally put paint to few old crones!

Anyway, here’s what I have so far (along with half a dozen unbased  flying witches)

Great minds think alike! I also avoid ECW wargaming because I do it for reenactment too. However, Richard's lovely range is just too good not to paint up, especially as I had been considering doing a small 17th century witch finder/monster hunter setup  :D

Oh wow! I love that flying witch. Could I ask where she's from?

Great project - I was also thinking of some folk horrory stuff!

Although for me, it's the reenacting that stokes the interest lol (That might be because the group does 1588-1680s, so we only get 1or 2 shows a year on the same dateline)

Well, we may all be able to bounce ideas about so I’m interested what you guys come up with!

I found some regular wolves in my clutter but seem to have lost another couple of werewolves I thought I had.    Never mind....I’ve seen some nice ones..🥴

Based and primed the models above, I may even paint a few!

Problem now is, I want a few musketeers in varying poses, preferably in Monmouth caps as I don’t think many would have afforded felted hats myself.   To ge get what I want, I’d need to buy at least three packs from Bicorne...then sell on eBay 80% of the figures I don’t want! 🤔. Maybe I will have to hope the next release from Bloody Minis will have a few....

Women flying around on broomsticks turning innocent villagers into toads and you are concerned about matching historical headgear!

I don’t understand your point!  :D

I know how I like my musketeers to dress..... no point letting standards drop just because of a few flying crones!

Various witches (Don't think they are Disc World though),
A pack of skellies (Not yet assembled) &
Some grave-stones (painted & based).

For when we can game again.

Those Bloody Miniatures are popping up all over the place, understandably as they're bloody nice (pun intended)

I may be looking to you for help writing some rules Pete!

You could just use the FFoL Gothic Horror supplement . We've used it for a medieval game with werewolves (which are in the supplement, along with vampires and undead etc.) and I could see it working just as well for a Witchfinder game.
