The waiting is over….Stokesay Castle is once again back with me after some twenty years!

Met up with Chris this am and moaned about the SK together for a bit before heading home to look at what needs doing!

So first off a few shots of the model.   Clearly we had to scale back the grounds a bit so the gate house does dominate it but otherwise it’s fairly faithful to the original.

The roof of the gatehouse and the top deck of the tower are removeable for game play, otherwise not. I popped a mini on the tower for scale.

Twenty odd years of heavy use, plus a few years hidden away in his garage has unfortunately left it with a few dings.  Mostly these are superficial however.   Unfortunately at some point, a few wee scurrying beasties have set about it, and there are a few wooden posts with evidence of chewing.   Most can be painted over, but some may need replacing.

The stonework has been a little battered and again mostly superficial, but the high piece on the tower is snapped.   A couple of steel pins can rectify it I think.

I’m thinking the “grass” needs some work too.   I may look to flock over it, and add a little shrubbery around the base of the walls, plus a little ivy on the walls for artistic impression.

Otherwise though not in bad shape!  A bit of paintwork perhaps, but should be good to go in a week or two…..

And in celebration, I just finished up a pair of Reaper Bones ghosts….never tried this before but passable I think.  Will look good in the graveyard.

Wow, great that you got it back after all this time!  :)

I live quite near the real one and one of my workmates works there on the weekend. Nice to see a model of it.

Thanks gents.  Your mate is lucky working somewhere like that!  I love the place!

Anyway first repair done.  Three steel pins pushed down into the snapped top wall piece of the tower and wood glued at the break.

I think I’m going to repair the wall digs with a mix of filler and pva next.

The roof is pretty much ok.  I think it needs a little colour titivating to pick out a few slates  etc and a little dry brushing to elevate it again.

The gnawed beams are a small conundrum……I need to think on that and I need to order a crap load of grass flock I think…..

Rather a good layout, isn't it? Well done David.

Yes, I'm sure you can pimp it up a little bit to bring it right up to scratch.

I now realise I have a small gatehouse building which must be made by the same person and of around the same vintage - the style of the carved timbers is quite distinctive.

Yup, the guys at TM Terrain made it originally.

I’m thinking a lot of ivy / wall covering will lift it quite a bit.     I need to look what I have in the foliage box……

Great building. Good luck with the repairs. I have a 40K city built with Hirst Arts plaster tiles which has been stowed away in the garage for a couple of years, and it‘s in a worse state. Have to start repairing it.  ;)

I'm curious - What's the real-life purpose of that bit of higher wall on the tower anyway?

Not sure…on arial pic it almost looks chimney like.  I don’t think that pice is fully representative.

Fabulous looking model. A little bit of a pimp 'n' polish should see that really shine. Twenty years ago is pretty much pre tufts and static grass after all.

Honestly, all that damage seems really fixable without too much effort and then some pimping with paint and flock should take it to new heights.

How could I have missed this thread? You have a lovely project going on here.
Only this weekend a friend and I were discussing putting together a which hunter game using Bloody Miniatures figures and our existing ECW terrain.
Keep up the good work!
