If you're going to concentrate on the Crusades, it's worth getting some relatively specialised rules as that was a very different conflict to the wars in Europe. So go with Lion Rampant and get the Crusader states supplement. The latter is a little over-padded with history but certainly worth having.

I concur with Soldiers of God for big battles and Sieges.  Its out of stock everywhere though

I bought mine when it was first published, though I have a tendency to do that with all Medieval rule sets.

LR is still top of my list but I will read some reviews on SoG and hopefully come to a decision

SoG is a very good compromise between a medium level skirmish game and a full battle game as SoG does not requite are many miniatures as some rule sets like Hail Caesar, Swordpoint etc.
