Help! Looking for WW2 era pilot figures
« on: April 04, 2021, 03:21:21 AM »
I am currently building a force of 1/72 scale planes to use in wargaming. Unfortunately most of the models do not come with a pilot figure. I have used up the supply from my parts bin and am (in desperation) currently converting tank crew figures. What I looking for is the classic seated pilot figure that Revell would provide in their WW1 and single-seat WW2 fighters (or something close to that).

I could make a mold and cast my own but I would rather buy some if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hobby Master. Bit crude but under the average clear plastic canopy should look OK, especially if repainted.

Anton,

While I appreciate the sentiment (it's a peeve of mine that most airplane kits don't include pilots anymore), please avoid double- (or in this case, triple-) posting the same topic to multiple boards.

If you wish to reach a larger audience, please use on of the general boards such as Workbench or General Discussion, and choose a wide-ranging topic title.

The absence of pilots is one thing. The failure to produce landing gear in an airborne configuration is even less excusable.

Westfalia Chris, My apologies for the multi-posting

carlos marighela,  Yes! too many have doors that don't come close to fitting over the opening in the lower wing I have had to fabricate doors from sheet stock to get something to fit. Another reason I like planes with fixed landing gear.

Thanks for the suggestions I will be running down a couple of leads!

Lovely as those are Annie, I doubt that they will fit into a 1/72 model.

Have you had a look for the Airfix ground crew figure sets? There were RAF, USAAF and Luffawaffe ones, all came with various standing pilot figures, who I think would easily make the upper body of a pilot in a plane?

They seem to be about £5 for a box new - which might be a big expensive for a few pilot figures

You can buy airfix Pilots direct, some resin available, but expensive. For early war I use Wartime Miniatures ww1 pilots.

Cheers

Have you seen the Reed Oak printed 1/72 pilots.......not sure if they have seated ones but you could ask....

http://reedoak.com/#!/1-72/c/14086006

Maybe worth looking through here too

https://www.hannants.co.uk/manufacturer/cmkczech-master-kits/products?scale_id=956&search_direction=desc&product_type_id=1880

Hannants have all manner of pilots and ground crew including seated RAF
