Sgt T's WW2 Pacific project

Finally decided to start a project which was buried in the pile of shame for some time:

28mm Australian platoon for the New Guinea campaign (Toofatlardies Chain of Command rules).

Although the Pacific War handbook hasn't been released yet I decided to start anyway using a mix of Warlord plastics (and a few metal ones with the Owen SMG).

Shouldn’t there be 10 men in the section, Leader with rifle, 3 man Bren Team and 6 man Rifle Team (one with an SMG)?

Love to see a picture of the ‘Owen Man’, a very underrated weapon.

Indeed the section leader is missing. He's still in the queue 
The Owen guys are metal (from the Warlord Australian independent commando section box) and will follow later.

I didn't realize that slouch hats were an option on the warlord sprue.

Only on the sprues in the British Commonwealth Infantry in the Western Desert box.
These don't contain any British helmets. Instead the sprue contains Australian slouch hat heads, LRDG & SAS heads, South African sun helmet heads and New Zealand Lemon Squeezer hat heads.

Had a bit of spare time today and built a second section (again minus the section leader).





And two extra crew for the Vickers (the Warlord set comes with 3 crew).

 I'm really loving these, they remind me of the airfix Australian infantry I had as a kid. I might have to buy a box of these Warlord.

Great stuff. I really wish I’d started my WW2 exodus with the Pacific. I hope the CoC pacific handbook is still usable with the upcoming 2nd Ed CoC (I’m guessing so). Looking forwards to watching this project progress, thank you Sarge.

As far as I know the CoC v2 is going to be backwards compatible with all existing (and future!) handbooks.

Great work on the Australians so far, Sarge, looking forward to seeing the project develop.

Yes, the new Far East handbook is written with some of the new concepts, as was Blitzkrieg, so is absolutely still valid.  V2 is not going to "break" any of the PSCs.  Read about it hear...

On paper there were 11 men in the section but one or two were almost always 'left out of battle' as a reserve to reconstitute the  unit should it suffer heavy losses. Disease and casualties usually kept sections and platoons beneath their nominal strength anyway. Ten men would be as good as it ever got.

The Warlord Owen guns are about half the length of a cricket pitch with barrels like drain pipes. The Warlord sculptor possibly had one described to him by someone whose cousin had once seen an illustration in a comic book. Of course the metal figures themselves  vary wildly in size themselves but even so they couldn't help but make the Owen's too large. I considered adding some of the metal Warlord figures to my Eureka Australians for variety's sake but they really aren't that flash.

Hi CM, Re “On paper there were 11 men in the section” do you have links or book references that mention this number as the TOE for regular/standard Second AIF infantry unit sections as I have never seen it before and would be interested in checking it out and the corresponding breakdown of troops within it, many thanks!
