Otterburn period Scots 1388.
« on: March 16, 2021, 05:17:44 PM »
As part of the ongoing tidying up/completing process these 30 Old Glory mounted figures have been nagging at me to get them done for many a year. So mounted Scots for the Otterburn period 1388.

One command stand of Archibald and James Douglas, and one mounted knights/squires of left to right, Sir John Swinton, Sir John Lindsey, Sir John Montgomery, Sir Malcom Drummond, Simon Glendinning and Sir Alexander Fleming.

More pictures of the Otterburn figures http://thenorthumbrianwargamer.blogspot.com/search/label/Medieval if you want to see the lot just keep scrolling through the pages. On with the English!
Dave.

Great work! Always had a thing for Otterburn, we got taught about it back in primary school, which was built in sight of Sir John Montgomery (captor of Hotspur)'s castle (or at least the site of it anyway!)

I've got a big thread on my own Otterburn project on here somewhere from years ago... I should really update it.

Very kind Ian, had a look at your figures, your painting standard beats the pants off mine though mate!

Great work! Interesting layout with the command stand too, I've not seen a semi-circular one with the names on like that before, it's a neat idea to add some extra historical context like that!

I try to print the names on the commanders though the cavalry base has the names of the knights/esquires underneath, your right it personalises them a bit and you feel a bit more involved when manoeuvring them about if you know the actual names of the fellows. All were present at Otterburn of course.
A few more pictures of Scots stands done previously:

All based on Impetus bases, not cause I use the rules, just because I like to tart the bases up a bit.

Henry Percy (Hotspur) and friends added to the collection. Struggled a bit with these chaps it has to be said. I do find production line block painting uniformed units easier than painting individual figures as these have to be done. Hand painting heraldry is a bitch, I'm ok with geometric shapes but anything like birds animals etc I struggle with.

Blog is here: http://thenorthumbrianwargamer.blogspot.com/search/label/Medieval the same photos but a bit of info on who they are.

Take care,
Dave.
