Re: Mean Streets: The Warriors & More (Upgraded Bits)

Working away on additions for the next couple of games coming this Saturday at the annual summer games day at The Hobby Bunker in Wakefield, Mass.

By the end of the week, the Boppers will finally be ready to rumble, plus one more building, and fancy printed roster sheets instead of the hand-written index cards I whipped up just before game time at Huzzah.

First off the workbench though are some upgraded bits.

The trees I bought, glued into their already painted bases, and flocked on the morning before we left for Huzzah.  They were a bit tipsy when bumped, so I've weighted the bases better.  Added a pair of galvanised washers to each, a 1-3/8" and a 1-1/2" one.  Now they are well ballasted and stable.  Also had the luxury of time now to add litter to fully citify them.

Also did a little bit of correction on painting some of the Lizzies and Furies.  Painted both these gangs 3 years ago when I hadn't yet been fully immersed in the wealth of fanatical fanbase info that can be ferreted out of teh internets.

For the Lizzies names, I used a mix of ones that had been created for the video game and actress' names for the rest.  I guessed wrong on two of the names and gave them to the wrong figures.  Spotted that when I was putting them on the table at Huzzah.  My Lizzies cosplay outfit is based on the one worn by Suki Rothchild, but her figure was labelled for Iris Klein — how embarrassing, had to fix that!

Then for the Furies, more info has come to my attention that I could correct the face paint and skin colour on a couple of them, and also add a few actors names.  I had originally used a mix of video game names and made-up ones.

Also painted the Furies 3 years ago.  Because two different casts were used for the chasing Furies (an NYC running club) and the fighting Furies (stunt actors), the numbers and face paints don't match up.  Leon Delany played the fighting Orange Fury, which I had originally painted in red.  With screen lighting and old photographs it usually looks red, but when he was alive and on the convention circuit, he always signed autographs as 'Orange Fury.  Also due to the same image issues, I had painted him as black, so switched him to caucasian while re-doing the face paint.  Two other Furies were black, and switched those from Caucasian.

And while I was working on re-paints and re-naming, I added a few of the Furies actors' names that I can match up: Delaney, Rob Ryder (Purple Fury, who has the great final fight with Swan), and SJ (Steve James).

Wrapped up several new additions this week, in time for the annual summer games day at the FLGS today.

Boppers painted at last.  Did the conversion work on them 3 years ago and back in the early pages of this thread.  Have been gradually getting paint on them, and they finally hit the table.  Got all the detailing done, but left the vests white before hitting them with Glosscote for hardness, and then Dullcote.  After that dried, did two coats of Testors Purple Metallic Flake on the vests, and one coat on the various coloured hatbands to give them a little satin shine.

5 of them are converted Wargames Atlantic's Partisans, including an alternate figure for the leader, DJ Bop, with a pistol.  And one metal with a WA head.

7 are converted metal gunfighters from the stash (a great source of bevested figures), likely mostly Dixon.

Had just started painting Jodie's Brews Burgers this spring, but switched over to working on the El and its station just in the nickiest of time to get it done for Huzzah.  All the printed buildings are completed now.

At Huzzah, I was scribbling out roster sheets on large index cards the morning the games were starting.  With the luxury of time now, did fancy layouts and printing with a QRS for the back side and ran them through the trusty laminator last night.

Whee!

Absolutely brilliant - it's been years since I saw the Warriors and even longer since I owned the book (lost when moving house) but your work and attention to detail is awesome. Strangest fact I know about the Warriors is that the story was inspired by Xenophon's Anabasis and the retreat to the sea.

Of course, if you run out of things to inspire you with the film, you could always watch Hill st. Blues and bring in some of their gang looks.
