Dickensian figures in 25/28mm?
« on: April 08, 2021, 09:15:59 PM »
Anyone make suitable figures for Dickens' characters apart from the Foundry Christmas Carol stuff?

Reading Barnaby Rudge and it occurs to me that modeling the Gordon Riots would be an eye catching novelty. That's 1780s - the bulk of the Dickensian characters would be civilians suitable for the Regency into the early Victorian period. Maybe French Revolution figures the 18th century?

Perry's ACW rioters possibly for the other end, what else?

A Nicholas Nickleby figure would be neat, perhaps an Oliver Twist, a Wackford Squeers, a Samuel Pickwick, a Nell and her grandfather? Something characterful, cartoony and dynamic.

"One of My Men Became Restless" focuses on 15mm Horse & Musket periods and 25mm Horse & Musket, Fantasy, Horror and Victorian everything! Occasionally there'll be stuff of related interest but it's mostly a painters blog.  See it all here: http://flashman14.blogspot.com/

Getting excited & making jokes about dropping Nepalm on little Asian Children in a Viet' village doesn't make it ok just because 'it's wargaming & not real'. You wanker scum need to look again at the real photographic horror of such chemical weapons. Seriously Disgusting mind set amongst some you.

There are a few civilian figures available from different Napoleonic ranges that might fit the bill.

Brigade Games has some scientists/savants from Napoleon's Egyptian expedition that could be modified:  https://brigadegames.3dcartstores.com/BG-NFR130-French-Scientists-Savants-All-4-variants_p_3077.html

Brigade also has Victorian civilians, including characters from A Christmas Carol: https://brigadegames.3dcartstores.com/Victorian-Age_c_221.html?viewall=1

Front Rank has civilians from the late 18th/early 19th Centuries:  https://www.frontrank.com/product-category/napoleonic/napoleonic-civilians/

Any of the various General Picton at Waterloo figures, where he famously wore his top hat and coat rather than a uniform!  One example here from Perry Miniatures:  https://www.perry-miniatures.com/product/bh2-wellington-uxbridge-picton/

And of course Eureka Miniatures has a wide range of civilians from the 18th and 19th centuries:  https://www.eurekamin.com.au/index.php?cPath=87_126_138&sort=3a
For example, Fagin's crew of pickpockets might be found amongst these lads:  https://www.eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=87_126_138&products_id=1769

Hope you can find something appropriate!

Artisan have some figures in their VSF line that have a definite Dickensian look

Although a bit later period, some American Civil War civilians might be useful.

Here's Old Glory's:

Redoubt's:

There are some nice (armed) civilian packs by Mr Hicks in Empress’s Maori Wars range. 1840s-50s, so bang on for Dickens.

Some of the Boot Hill Miniatures Alamo types in tail coats may work?
