I’ve got similar memories of WAB.
It’s the nostalgia I’m in it for  lol

I like the long hair and beards you get with Spartan figures. Makes them look distinctive and rather contrary to what you expect for the look of disciplined elite troops.

I’ve left WAB way behind and moved on to Simon Miller’s “To the Strongest”. Well worth a look if you haven’t checked them out already!

What is played in your area?  Or is it just a personal project?

If only personal, who are you planning to be your opponents?

Yeah, I’ve got a couple of mates into WAB.
Played To The Strongest too.
Probably more mates into WAB to be honest.
Hollywood ancients!

Tim, given WAB is long out of print have you looked at “War and Conquest” by Rob Broom the ex-supremo of Warhammer Historical? Never played them myself but I understand they are very WAB-like.

Besides, just coz I’m basing for WAB, doesn’t mean I can’t use figures in other rule sets.

Obviously this post on creating a Spartan force for WAB will slightly skew historical fact.
But only slightly..

Will your mates also be playing Greeks, or will that branch out into other eras?

Tim, you are making me nostalgic for the good old days of WAB . After that game died and the player base dissipated I began the slow process of becoming completely disillusioned with ancients. Despite its flaws ( and I admit it had them) nothing else has managed to really do it for me

Easy E, WAB covered all ancient and later periods right up to 15th century.

Once I get these Spartans going I’ll get posting.
Not even committed to buying them yet!

I’ve managed to get hold of some Victrix hoplite spears.
So I’ve made a start!

I have a copy of the old WAB rules, but never really got to play.

Who will your Spartans be fighting? A Burgundian Ordinance Army of Charles the Bald or something more contemporary to them?
