Just a joy to follow this project here! The laser cutter is an excellent investment as it seems  ::) Greta vehicles too, maybe with a bit more stowage and a tiny bit of weathering they would blend in a little better still!

Thank you all again for your kind comments - feedback is always appreciated!

Greta vehicles too, maybe with a bit more stowage and a tiny bit of weathering they would blend in a little better still!

You are so right - I definitely need to sit down and add a bit more grime, paint chipping etc. Hopefully that'll really bring my vehicles to life.

Okay, maybe you don't need a hundred civilian figures for the town but at least a few dozen.  Really like those first two photos.  So, how many do you have so far?

I definitely need more civilians - I probably have ~15 European civilians, and a handful local civillians. Frankly speaking, it's not super easy to find unarmed 1920-40's civilians. Lots of gangster-esque and WW2 partisan stuff out there, but the big coats and hats don't really fly in in the Indies... Similarly, lots of Vietnam era Asian civilians, but often armed or very stereotypically Vietnamese.
If people do have any recommendations I'd be very much open to it!

Onto a small update from my side - again, shamefully little given the amount of time that's passed since my last update.

First of all, I had already shared these on my Instagram page in early September, but I managed to paint up some Dutch naval recruits.
Nothing particularly special, although the experience reminded me of the pain that is painting white uniforms... I have a handful more to do, but was in need of a break after the first 5!

No idea who produces these - I actually bought them a few years back at Salute from an odd-lot bin. They're not entirely historically accurate, but they fit the bill.

I also finally finished the NIROM (Dutch Indies Radio Broadcast Corporation) building. I am very happy with how it has turned out.
I'll probably end up adding a base, but I am due to move house in the next few months so I may just wait to see if I can get a larger table in the new place which may allow me to add larger bases to my builds - so I'll probably wait for that.

Finally, I thought I'd finish off with a bird's eye view of town, a progress update of sorts for October 2024:

Thanks again everyone!
Shtim

Exquis-mendous!

And I do hope the marketplace hears your clarion call for more unarmed civilians for the era.  I hope you've been through the various pulp ranges and gathered what you can from them.   After that, I think the pickings get really slim.  But do check Boxer rebellion ranges for European civilians; don't know if 28 mm has them but in 15 mm there are a bunch.

Gorgeous as ever! :-* :-*

Would the Wargames Atlantic Partisans assist in the hunt for civvies? Rubicon do a couple of civilian refugee kits as well IIRC.

I've just been pointed at your thread and it's a visual feast, very nicely done.
You mentioned in a recent post about heavier weathering on the buildings and as I was reading through all the pages and buildings you'd completed that thought occupied to me as well. However looking at the pictures of the town as a unit in my opinion it all comes together as a stylistic whole.
It may not be hyper realistic but it does look bloody gorgeous.

The very nicely painted sailors look like Old Glory figures from their Boxer Rebellion range. Possibly German sailors by the cap design.

The poses are indeed pure Old Glory. They repeat across most of their ranges. Presumably you got a selection that didn't include their other popular poses such as 'The Juggler', 'The Contortionist', 'St Vitus Dancing Man', 'The Rubber Man' and 'Rictus Guy'.

Love that radio station!  Your town looks great so far, too.

As for civilians, what about some American West civvies?  I know that's a few years before your timeframe, but some of them would work in the warmer climes.
