Mounted crossbow
« on: April 22, 2021, 10:38:24 AM »
In most rulesets I know, European armies from 12th and 13th century have mounted crossbowmen, often as a compulsory unit.

Who makes such models? I know they can probably be converted quite easily, but with the range of models these days i figured that someone must have produced them.

But who?

Cheers
Erik

What years and scale are you looking at?

I assume you could build them using the Fireforge Mounted Sergeant and Dismounted Sergeant Box.

Foundry sell a couple of packs of Perry brothers ex Citadel mounted crossbows. They are from 1984 though so bear that in mind! Also I believe they are meant to be 15th century.

Thanks. The ones from Foundry are to late. As I mentioned I am looking for 12th and 13th century models.

I have some which I use for the small contingent that were at the battle of Bouvines 1214.  I can't remember the mfg, but I will pull them out and see if it jogs my memory.  I have 2 mfgs mixed together.

Here are some photos of what I did.  One might be an old Essex, one is Barony Miniatures and I added a crossbow to his open hand, the other 2 might be Mirliton??

I can see that Essex have some really nice ones. I think I might convert some though. If I tilt the arm of a sergeant and replace the lance/spear with a crossbow that would work.

Cheers
