I must admit I’m wondering how your old range, now part of Crooked Dice, square up with the Empress Brits. With a bit of work they might make reasonable Dutch or Luxembourgers.

I’ll let you know...I’ve got some Empress BAOR on the way  :)

Thanks for the photos.  Ash, those Eureka figs with the head swaps would look very similar in style to the Mongrel figures I think.

As Carlos says there seem to be two main camps, which is handy to know. Perhaps that should be scales.  If your typical man stands ~35mm high calling them 28mm seems odd.  So do we now have 35mm as a ‘scale’?

Although we’re not very good with sticking to scales at all.  At 1:56 an average man should be 32mm and at 1:48 37.5mm.  Maybe a bit taller if your average soldier is a bit taller than the average man.

I might be overthinking this now.  :D

Without disrupting your chat the one thing that you have to remember is that the Empress moderns range, including the Cold War range that is developing are all from the same sculptor and so are the same style and size, as are the vehicles etc.

The Vietnam range is a different range and created to link backwards in time to the French Indo China range, and WW2 as it share weapons, some vehicles and figures eg civilians. Therefore not considered by Empress as part of our Moderns Range.

That's the really basic and abridged reason for the difference. There is a very long complicated one as well but its Sunday.  lol

Thanks for the explanation Paul.  I certainly didn’t mean to single you out for  criticism.  I didn’t really mean to be critical at all, the figures are very nice.  I just wanted to discuss what ranges are compatible as ‘28mm’ obviously isn’t much of an industry standard.  In fact I’m not even sure your web site says they are ‘28mm’.  :)

Not seen as a critisism at all but a useful comparison. All good. Just thought I would explain part of the logic behind the sizes which is a specific desision rather than an error that some may percieve.

I have to admit to coming to the Empress Miniatures considering Crooked Dice and Hasslefree to be the modern standard for 28mm figures, so anything shorter I consider small. Militia Miniatures and (if I remember correctly) the Winter of '79 figures are comparable.

I have standardised on Empress Vietnam for that conflict (I also have some of the French Indochina range).

35mm is the scale I associate more with Malifaux

Wild West Exodus

And Knight Models.
