Well, I had a few half-cooked ideas for this and was debating on even entering- then I realized today that I have a project I need to start in order to continue my Rangers of Shadow Deep campaign. Essentially its a board that is mostly composed of steep stairs... so here's the placeholder :)
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Look forward to seeing your progress mate - stairs are one of those things I don’t enjoy making, so full credit to you for going out of your way to build some.

That one sentence already evokes so many images; can't wait to see what you'll come up with!
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Little progress so far. This was a tough year to be a school teacher, but I'm now that the semester is over I can get crackin' on personal projects.

My original plan was to use Hirst blocks to slowly work up the 30 inches of table, a 1/4" rise every inch, so it would end up being about 8" high at the end.

That's not quite the 60 degree angle the scenario describes, and my method doesn't have the fear factor of a steep gradient. Most people that run this just abstract it and use a flat table, I have seen a few crazy people make a dimensional version with a heavy slope. I'm trying to decide if I am that dedicated :)

Better late than...  well... you better get a move on as there is only about a week and half to go!  ;D

Plenty of time ;)

I have another method in mind that might end up being lighter, easier, and more steep :)
Generally, I tend to ruminate over things quite a while and get the good ideas toward the deadline  lol

I already think you’re going to win, Matt  lol

I know what you’re capable of!

Looking forward to seeing how it comes together :)

No chance on this one, I'm not usually a contender on the 'Build Somethings', which is fine with me- its all about getting something done. Last year's ruined building gets a heck of a lot of use.

I just need to get this thing done to advance the campaign my friend and I are playing!

After a literal trip "back to the to the drawing board" and some use of the Pythagorean Theorem, I scrapped my first idea and went with a 60 degree slope. Before the overall height was a paltry seven inches, now it is 24! This provides the threateningly steep feeling the scenario specifies, and I think I can actually widen the 'platforms' for accommodating figures.

Thus far the build is made from 'gator foam', a lightweight and stronger version of foamcore (also much more pricey). I'll likely ditch the Hirst blocks and go with regular insulation foam.

Much more intimidating than the first version.  Definitely meets the difficult criteria imho.

Agreed :)

The main pathway is done, as well as 'fly hole' platforms and the teasure marker area. Currently testing the width as I want to make the holes removable, and they need to be large enough to place the giant fly base inside.

Next, adding more platforms under all the areas a Ranger could fall, rounding edges to mitigate the blocky look, and then building up rocky textures.

Awesome; now that's a set of stairs only a ranger could love! 8)

And I hate to break it to you, but your pet coral snake has escaped apparently...
