Lovely Chippy!  :-*  I once had a dogfight with a P-51D in one just like that (we won, obviously ;) ).

Yes, it's true about Chippies being designated for 'light recce and liaison'.  The same goes for UAS Bulldogs, ATC Venture motor-gliders and the single DHC Husky belonging to the AEF in Northern Ireland.  However, it was more about listing under international 'Balance of Forces' treaties than actual role or capability.  Even the ATC's winch-launched gliders were listed as 'light recce' (good luck with that, but at least they were invulnerable to IR-guided missiles...  lol)!

Thanks everyone....your support feeds my craziness  :D

Love the snow suit figures.  Check out our chechnyan range for some other usable figures.  ;)

Cheers Paul...already eyeing up the Chechens  :-*

No one point Akky in the direction of the Caspian Sea Monster  ;)

{Google’s “Caspian Sea Monster”}  :o :-* :-* :-*

Oops there we go, putting temptation in the poor lad’s way again. Soz!

 lol

You are a bad man  lol

So has there been a soviet landing in this war?

It’s beginning to look that way  ... maybe a small scale landing to hit airfields/radar sites & tie down the flow of reservists to the continent  :D

More Soviets painted - managed another 9 today

All of the new ones are from Underfire miniatures, mostly with Anvil Industry balaclavas, and some green stuff for the two piece snow suit.

Group shot so far (includes a couple of converted Artizan minis)

I also put together a supply drop

The chute is from 1st Corps, and the pallet is from anyscalemodels.com

Think I’m going to need a bigger plane  ;D

Anybody make an An26 or something similar in a "close enough" scale?

Edit:  More nice figs, by the bye...

Couple of kits out there in 1/72. Amodel do a couple of versions and a company called Russian project do another. Both companies make kits of the An-24 which the 26 was based on.

Roden do a number of An-12 variants and that was probably the most widespread VVS transport.

Nice conversions with those balaclava. I have always shied away from using Anvil heads with Empress/Underfire figures, but they look spot on.

Thanks everyone.

Today’s update is some vehicles for the Soviets - all of which are airportable.

BTR-D
From Empress Miniatures - a beautiful casting, easy to build. Mini for scale purposes is from Underfire

ASU-85
From Butlers Printed Models. I’ll be honest... the model has loads of striation lines, I only bought this model because no one else makes one. I decided to cover it with extra stowage and snow ... if I buy another one, I’ll use more snow.

LuAZ 967
1/43 diecast model, comes with a canvas roof, but I like it better without.

UAZ 469
Another 1/43 model, from DeAgostini

Scale Comparison of Empress vs BPM*

*  They size up well, but there is no comparison in terms of quality.

Nice

Just FYI if you know someone local with a resin printer there is a nice looking ASU-85 on thingiverse though it will need a bit of work as some bits (Like the gun) are low poly for some reason ad those tow ropes are unlikely to print!  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3269188

A resin print shouldn't have any significant lines if done right but its hard with so many flat angled plates!

Nice little Soviet motorpool you got there.

Nice work on both kits. You could always say the ASU-85 was given a zimmerit style coating of concrete. That said, you’ve definitely made a purse from a sow’s ear. Looks the part and all.

My guilty secret is occasionally stealing glances at their PSZH IV. They are the only people to make one and my East German Grenztruppen demand a ride. I keep wondering just how bad it could be.

I suspect but don’t know that someone producing an upcoming range of Soviet paratroopers will eventually get round to making an ASU-85. Of course I fully understand the project imperative of ‘I want it now’. :)

By the by, if you are looking at 1/43 soft-skins, you should check out the range from AVD. They are a Russian/ Ukrainian (?) company that makes white metal kits of lots of Soviet kit, including some over snow gun tractors/ personnel carriers and useful bits of impedimenta like field bakeries and command post like vehicles. Many of their kits are very cheap when compared with resin kits or pre-made die casts, at least if bought direct from their Russian distributor. They appear to be very well detailed yet simple to build and come with actual instructions.

Website is bit clunky but a GT-S over snow transporter for £13 is a bargain by anyone’s standards.

Enjoy.

Nice work on those vehicles.  You especially did a great job on that ASU-85.  Great work all around.

If he does, then the current one may well end up as a wreck  :D

Will do, thanks again  :)
