Whelp, mkultra99 the rules do say you can take what you want from them. You’re not going to like H&M 2.0.
Oldboy I’m running a Horse and Musket game next Thursday using Bloody miniatures. I’ll post an AAR as well as the video. H&M 2.0 will be out REALLY soon....

30 figures per side for The Pikeman’s Lament gives a perfectly viable game, Frank, if you stick to the smaller infantry unit types like Commanded Shot and Forlorn Hope (6 figures per unit, which is the same for all mounted troops). Larger bodies of pike, shot and so on are in units of 12.

Fistful of Lead is at the other end of the scale, and only requires five or six figures per player. They are very entertaining rules, particularly if playing with a group of friends, each controlling half a dozen figures. Much of the business of the game is derived from cunningly playing the hand of cards you are dealt in the optimum order to activate your figures one at a time, and also to make the most of the particular benefits yielded by certain cards. I think that central mechanism of the rules might prove slightly less entertaining if you’re playing both sides, but I haven’t seen the solo play sheet, so maybe that provides a way of maintaining the suspense :)

Baron von J - I await your AAR with interest.

Capitan Blood - Firstly figures arrived and I am very very impressed. Thank you. I have ordered Pikeman's Lament as it looks like I can start small and grow with it. I do not exclude any other rules. But I will be playing solo and I think Dan Mersey rules work well for this. Living in Italy everything takes much longer (although your order was surprisingly quick!). So at least I should have some figures ready by the time rules start to appear.

You can also use the concept from Dragon Rampent (another Mersey game) and allow each figure to  "count as" more than one figure.  For example cut the figure count in half and remove figures each second hit.  That would allow you to play smaller games without changing the game at all.  The Rampent series of games are extremely flexible.

For smaller games 10-20 figures per side- I recommend En Garde. More detail, more character.
