To The Strongest - Macedonia v Carthage
« on: May 01, 2021, 01:44:23 PM »
I tried a couple of games of To the Strongest last year and today I introduced the game to a friend at our club in Melbourne. It was a smashing game despite all the mistakes we made (and I'm sure there were many). Two great empires clashed and one stood victorious. We'll be playing again in the near future because this game was fantastic. It was a great game with big armies, plenty of colour, big drama and a climactic finish.

There's a full battle report on my blog at: https://this28mmlife.blogspot.com/2021/05/macedonia-vs-carthage-to-strongest.html

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Great looking set up for a game using my favourite ancients/medievals ruleset. What size game was it? We have been playing TTS regularly during lock-down using Zoom, but  I am  limited to a 6 x 4' table and c150-160 points per side.

Nice looking game. I see you managed without a grid. TTS does make a big game move along.

I see a pattern on black dots- are these to mark out the corners of the grid?

I see them now, disguised by the small tufts.

Thanks guys. Yeah, the black dots are the grid. When you know they're there its easy to see the grid but it can be difficult to see unless it's pointed out.

Fab looking game. TTS uses the DBX style of basing, which is also used for Sword and Spear.

Nice Blog BTW!
If it isn't enjoyable, it isn't gaming!

Impressive armies, great set of rules too (our local group's favorite set). Thanks for the AAR!

I thought that TTS was basing agnostic; as long as the base fits within the grid it really does n't matter.  Simon is now an adherent to the principle that the bigger the base the better

Yes, basing isn’t important. You need to be able to distinguish small, normal and deep units (in my case by using 2,4 or 6 DBx bases on a sabot), and obviously the units need to fit in the squares.

Concur with what’s said about TTS. A great set of rules. I’ve used it for games ranging from 1100BC through to the Wars of the Roses. Seems to work for most armies/periods.

As has been said as long as units fit in the grid, you don’t need to re-base. You just need to know what you are fighting. I recall a game where I was facing a unit of 2 cavalry who when they went into combat were declared as Cataphracts!
