Hello,
Has anyone gamed the Canadian Rebellion of 1837?

There are some army lists for the Patriotes Uprising in Rebels and Patriots.  Might be interesting if you are keen on Canadian political history, as the longer term impacts on the evolution of democratic rule in Canada.  However, to set this up as a wargame would be pretty challenging since the actual events were pretty one-sided:  a game where the army clears away a bunch of rioters isn't going to be much fun for those on the receiving end.

Not quite. The Patriotes did reasonably well at Saint-Denis. Essentially fought the British forces to a stand still. The British retreated after running out of ammo and lost a field piece during the withdrawal.

St Charles saw some heavy fighting and St Eustache would make for a classic fight through a built up area. The key is the scale. Pitched at a skirmish level, all three battles are eminently gameable. Bit of historical tweaking and there’s no reason why the whole thing wouldn’t make an entertaining and novel campaign.

The Upper Canadian Rebellion is more like your description but the forces are better matched, with principally militia as government forces. Of course if you include the invasion of the Hunter Patriots as part of the Canadian Rebellion(s) then you have a couple of very entertaining small battles to add to the mix.

Thanks, Carlos, I suspect I have exposed my anglo-Canadian prejudices  ;)
