I'm feeling the Call of Cthulhu

I only have a basic outline of HPL's work. Tell me, why purple robes for Cultists?

I reckon it’s just the rule of cool - from memory HP typically described his cultists as “mongrel” types dressed in rags, sweepings of the gutter types.

Mine have various coloured robes depending on their affiliation.

I think I'm going to theme mine on the graphic novel Fatale with the main villain being Bishop and/or The Yellow King

I'm doing mine in black, I like it for it's rarity value.  And of course I can always use them for the Neighbourhood Watch Alliance as well.

My 16-year old daughter recently told me purple was the most evil looking colour. Not sure where that notion came from, but she does really well in art, so it must be right!

Poss something to do with Regality, being that Purple is by association of Royalty.

& then by connection there are those whom postulate certain Royal families are occult driven behind the scenes or facade of their more benign public face of mainstream religious affiliation.

I'm sure there is some medieval reasoning to it, derived from religion, but I can't remember the what ofs it's origin story.

Also claret, when still in our meat suits & not yet seen the light of day, or depth of night, is far from the crimson we associate with, & leans more to dark blue, purple, burgandy.

Maybe Pattus Magnus' daughter is right & it is simply an 'evil' colour.

Velvet purple robes are rather swanky though.

I like purples a lot, but I wouldn't wear it  lol

Due to the purple dye being incredibly expensive it is often associated with religious and secular power, luxury and monetary ambition.  Thus it is seen to represent gluttony, lust, greed, pride, arrogance, idleness, excess and envy.

Aye, that's the fellae, a facet I was forgetting about. The rarity & labour intensiveness of some pigments.

Guess TTPTB never quite got round to usin the lychen or heather for their dyes.

Perhaps not prestigious enough & thus beneath them, didn't quite exemplify their empire breadth, wealth & ocean baring power, though I don't see crushed snails as much in the realms of prestige. Better than decimating a rare butterfly population however.
