Black Powder Epic - skirmishing and marking units status?
« on: May 10, 2021, 11:43:44 AM »
Hi,

I’m new to Black Powder and am ploughing through painting the ACW Epic  starter set ready for the club to reopen, but I have some questions:

1. Mixed Order:Modelling mixed order units with a skirmish line deployed? Do you put one of the bases in front of the other two (we’re using 3 bases to a standard size regiment) or make some round bases with a couple of single figures on to represent skirmishes? Or something else?

2. Casualty Markers: I’m thinking of going the Warbases casualty marker route or is it better to just make a number of round casualty marker with 1, 2 and 3 wounded Kalistra figures on?

3. Moral Status Markers: I was thinking of adding coloured cube frames to the casualty markers with yellow for shaken, orange for whipped and red disordered. Would this work, or is it too much colour coding?

Thanks for looking

Hello Joken,

I'm a big fan of Black Powder.

1. I have used both and continue with round bases for dedicated skirmish units and rectangular bases in open order for deployed skirmishers (mixed order).

2. Figures for casualties is popular and would work well for ACW. I prefer numbered counters myself becasue unit sizes vary and I'm not bothering to paint casualties for every unit type.

3.Your cubes would work fine but again, I use printed markers which say what is happening - disordered, shaken etc. I'd never remember what colour was which.
