War of the Roses Bombard
« on: May 10, 2021, 11:42:51 AM »
It's been a while since I've posted on the forum but I have been busy - honest! This blog shows the Bombard that I have added to my 'Nevermind the Bill Hooks' army. I suspect that it will be rarely used in battle as it's more of a siege piece but may get used as an objective in a scenario. I hope that the blog is useful - I learnt some interesting lessons!

Great job on that Steve.
I’ve built that model myself. Several years ago. Just never actually managed to use it on a tabletop battlefield  ::) lol

Terrific painting!

I imagine deploying that in a skirmish game like Billhooks would feel like using a King Tiger in a game of Chain of Command  lol

Thank you for the kind comments. I'll be nagging Andy Callan to come up with both a suitable scenario for Billhooks and some adjusted rules. I'll post up here once I have something.

I am curious as to whether guns like these would have seen service in any sort of battle rather than sieges. On the face of it, they were hardly mobile but if you had one in the baggage train, why not use it? For example, in the 2nd battle of St Albans, Warwick had set up defensive lines, only to be out flanked. You can just imagine the Yorkist army digging in this sort of gun thinking that they would surprise the Lancastrians...

Wishful thinking on my part but enough to concoct a reason to deploy it!

Thanks again,

 :o Truly superb !
and I like the stone cannonballs near it.  :)

The problem is that obviously you cannot change the direction of fire without re-installing all the wooden beams that are fixed to the ground behind it; so unless the enemy is kind enough to stay just in front, or to wait, it's useless. And the rate of fire is very slow.
