Wondering about the most appropriate subforum
« on: May 13, 2021, 09:46:05 AM »
My first miniatures for a new project just arrived, and I struggled to decide upon the most logical place to start talking about them.
The setting is Italy in the year 1500. The idea is to build two opposing factions: one consisting of a largely historical army of an alliance of various Italian States, albeit including some of Leonardo's war machines (or pieces inspired by them). The other force has some historical units, but mainly contains demons and other creatures from Dante's Inferno, plus hordes of evil skeleton soldiers. (Led by a demonic Pope Alexander VI... obviously.)

Now, the Ancients subforum also features mythological aspects, but this isn't specified elsewhere, and some periods with popular fantasy/sci-fi spin-offs (VSF, Weird Wars) have separate sections anyway. If the real-world aspects warrant a historical subforum, I've seen the Italian Wars feature in both Medieval and Renaissance I think. If not, I suppose it'll simply be the Fantasy subforum.

Any input from a moderator?
I figure I could just post a topic and it'll be moved elsewhere if needed, but an actual topic with guidance might prove informative to other indecisive hobbyists working on strange subjects in the future.  ::)

For my taste, the demons etc. would anchor it in Fantasy rather strongly.

A more or less historical project with only humans and some advanced machinery of war thrown in could go in the Renaissance and Baroque board that is Pikes etc., AFAIC.

It can go in the Pikes, Muskets etc (AKA the Renaissance + swashbuckling board!) as far as I’m concerned  :)

I spent some years relocating ‘fantasy pirate’ stuff - orc and elf pirates and skeleton privateers etc - to the fantasy board, before deciding life is too short to worry about it.

I also feel that things like Leonardo’s war machines, nightmarish creatures from the works of Hieronymus Bosch, or demons and skeletons as featured in C16th and C17th manuscripts and broadsheets, (contemporaneous fantasy, if you like) kind of ‘historically’ belong in the appropriate period board.
(Little green GW orcs wearing pirate hats, not so much ;))

I think with your descripton and some words to the pictures it should be pike&shot. Fantasy is - in my eyes - more this Orc and Elves-stuff. I won't say GW-Stuff, because there are more Fantasy-Games.
Your stuff sounds - for me - like Pike&shot. Antedeluvian made all these demons. Nice figures
